QuoteBeast It is with a sad and heavy heart that I'm belatedly posting to say that our dear lady with sssoul left this world last week and far too soon. Many of the longer-standing posters on here will remember her for enriching this board with her wit and wisdom and with her erudition as the Department of Historical Accuracy on all things Rolling Stones, the band she always let us know that

QuoteDoxa Quotetreaclefingers ..and also surprisingly Bite Me Head Off, which I just saw as a bit of a throwaway rocker in the first place but it is such a great performance. Sort of in the tradition of a song like She's So Cold, which on paper isn't anything special but the performance takes it to a completely other level, so much so that they can't do it in concert and do

It's true that Marty has made better movies than The Departed. Goodfellas, Casino and The Aviator are all better. The Departed is in the category right under along with Gangs Of New York, Raging Bull and Mean Streets. I never liked Taxi Driver. I thought it was boring and I'm probably the only one who thinks that too.

Debuts at Sundance in September. Out on DVD probably around Christmas. I guess the editing is going fine. Supervised by ACADEMY AWARD WINNING director Martin Scorsese.

Whowouldathunkit all those years ago? I’ve been writing poetry for some years, and I try some things on guitar as well… Lyrically inspired by 60s\70s Jagger, Lou Reed and Tom Waits… musically it’s Keith. I aspire to his idea of being an antenna. It forces you to be open. It simply makes you do things off the beaten path, and for that I’m extremely grateful. Happy birthday Keith. Thanks for the

QuoteGeorges Why the Stones did not record the whole lyrics ? The 4th part is missing: “Well I feel yes I feel, Baby like that low-down time ain't long I'm gonna catch the first thing smokin’, Back, back down the road I'm goin’ Back down the road I'm goin’ Back down the road I'm goin’ Sure 'nough back, sure 'nough back” Most likely because they wanted

Quotenoughties QuoteDandelionPowderman Quotenoughties This is the Achilles heel of the album. I heard it from day one. What do you mean? It`s quite a common expression. Achilles heel = weak point. You think so? I’m surprised. To me it’s one of the best on there. The best on this album are these: SSOH WWW TMS RSB GC

I know I’m reading way too much into this, but did you realize that the first word on the first Stones album was “Well”. The last word on the last Stones album was also “Well”. Well if you ever plan to motor west… He’s gonna be a rolling stone… oh well… Both cover songs too. Gives entirely new meaning to this one:

Completely punk. Not much to it, but you can hear the joy of getting to smack away at a good rocker… Love the sound of Macca’s bass too. Those 20 seconds from around 2.10 to 2.30 is some of the most joyful I’ve heard in a long time. I mean it goes full steam ahead and THEN we get Paul f****** McCartney pumping the bass right before a stellar solo.

QuoteDandelionPowderman QuoteJumpingKentFlash One of the best songs on there. Very Jagger, but luckily I love him. The lyrics are awesome too. But with a killer Keith-riff YES!!!! And I still think that riff could’ve gone on either Heathen or Reality by Bowie.

QuoteMadcap It would be cool if this was part two to the documentary that covers everything post 1981 (I think that’s about where it stopped), but I’m guessing it’s jus5 another reissue. That’s what I’m hoping. Part 2 of Crossfire Hurricane. Ending in the making of HD.

QuoteRobertJohnson This is the weakest song on HD for me. The lyrics are cheesy, the three chords of the verses are tortured over 7 minutes. It's all pretty unimaginative. Plus, who needs a Lady Gaga on a Stones album, since the Stones have always had and continue to have good backup singers? The bleeping and yowling gets on my nerves. But I'm sure the Bible Belt and the marketing peopl

Fave tracks on a very strong album: Sweet Sounds Of Heaven. Tell Me Straight. Rolling Stone Blues. Whole Wide World. Angry. Every guest is on point and not overused. The sax in Get Close is reminiscent of Ernie Watts. It’s absolutely stunning to make this that late in the game. SSOH could’ve been on EOMS, not because it’s gospel/soul, but because it actually has the quality.

Quotemaumau dare I say we have a brand new warhorse? Maybe, but it’d have to take a very prominent spot on the setlist given that the band has a somewhat limited number of concerts left in them. They have a humdinger of an album in their hands right now, and they could make the two singles into warhorses if they had Angry as the opening song, and SSOH as the second last song (the YCAGWYW spot).

We need a thread for the IORR axe swingers. Does anyone have the chords for the songs? I can get the first chord of Tell Me Straight for example, but I’m at a loss for the next one.

Someone mentioned that Whole Wide World could easily have been on some of the latter day Bowie albums. It’d fit right onto Reality for example. That kind of angst laden rock Bowie did so well.
