As these have been my two favorite bands since the 60's I have to weigh in. I also would not try to compare them, given their different visions of where to take the music - but I have known an emormous number of music fanatics that count these as their two favorite bands over the years, so there is certainly room for both. I have to see this degenerate into a slapfest, cause I love both band

I qualify - at least in my own mind. first show I saw was Iowa State Fair Grounds on June 16 1974 - five-hour three-set extravaganza. Too many highlights to mention, but if anyone doesn't believe these guys rocked, take a second and go to Archive.org. and locate the soundboard of that concert (6-16-74) and listen to the stream of the absolutely epic version of 'Around 'n Around

Rosilyn by the Pretty Things - I've had lifelong Stones fans hear this and simply not believe it is not a killer mid-60's Stones cut (perfect - the most exactly Jaggeresque vocal ever) honorable mention: Are You Listening Lucky by Joe Ely (killer rhythm guitar - could have been straight off of Sticky Fingers)

It will be the last show if: Marianne Faithfull and Anita Pallenburg come out to help sing the wooo-wooo's on Synpathy - as in the studio version

First with a bullet: Grateful Dead - Iowa State Fair Grounds - 74 - Noon to six - 3 sets with the wall of sound PA (check out 'round N round' on Archive.Org from this one), many other dead shows - all memorable Springsteen in 1978 - 2000 seat hall - smoked - seen him a dozen times since, all good, but none close Little Steven - KC Memorial Hall - 83 - What a character Allman

I was there. Pretty interesting night. Taylor was in town doing a club date with (I think) Alvin Lee - so we had an inkling he might show up for a cameo. Although I haven't heard the boot, my initial impression is that he did not have the classic distortion / edge that was his trademark for leads - but a more clean sound that didn't always cut through. Everyone seemed to really enjoy th

Agree with 'Sleep Tonight' being the most under-rated stones song.

Couldn't agree more - but with the essential addition of the awesome 'We Love You' flip side. For a brief moment in time during the phsyco years the Stones clearly surpassed the Beatles in concept and execution.

I'll make one observation: After watching R&R Circus, it is pretty clear that Brian played the slide parts on Beggars, which I consider to be a very significant aspect of that albums total vibe. The light touch he exhibits throughout that record doesn't appear again. The slide on LIB is heavier and more deliberate sounding to my ear.

I fully agree on this one: maybe the best studio production there is. I had listened to this for more than 30 years before I figured out (or read somewhere) that the zinging sounds were actually sitar. All of the sounds on this track from the acoustics to the drums to the sitar (and tablas! courtesy of Dave Mason) are taken out of their normal context, which is what takes this song to a totally d

Hey hey - I was also at Arrowhead in 75. My second show. Much different but I still loved it. This was maybe the fourth show of the 75 tour and they were clearly just getting to the groove. It had a looseness that was really fun. Keith walked out and saluted the crowd with a fifth of Jack - before launching into HTW. A couple of notable moments: They played Luxury (one of a very few times)

I was there. I think June 6. Tix were $4.50 / 5.50 / 6.50. Had to stay out all night Sunday night to get tickets (I saw a small group queuing up outside Municipal Auditorium Sunday morning after leaving a downtown hotel after going to the high school prom Saturday night, as a junior in High School (no kidding)) The show was absolutely mind-boggling for someone who had never seen the Stones bef

Been there, back in 1988. This doesn't look very much like it. It was a beautiful spot, and it is in the same general area, but the place looked much funkier, at least at that time: two couches one with a major cigarette burn on it, a couple of guitar cases, a small turn-table with a stack of vintage 45s, a cork-board with some photos pinned to it (including a recent photo of Keith at the vi
