Love this - this totally captures what separates the Stones from the Beatles - they fully deconstruct the rhythm and the guitar tones could only be achieved in those days by pushing the amps to the edge of instability - this shows they knew exactly who they were and who they were going to be right off the bat. They just made a holy mess out of this L&M tune

I was also there - smaller than expected crowd - but one of my fav shows (and I've seen every tour in the US since 72. Keith was sharp and hot, Ronnie was straight and played very well (he replicated the signature lead riff from Crazy Mama perfectly, which was a highlight), great version of Little Queenie. Sound was fantastic - they moved the stage in toward the stands due to few GA attendee

Was also there - knew he was in town, as my GF saw him at the Uptown with Alvin. Agree with the above - did not make a big impression - his presence wound up extending the jammier songs (Black Limo, LIB, Imagination) - and probably sapped some of the urgency from a normal Stones performance of that era. But historical ...

QuoteMongoose Stones 77, I can relate.....I was eleven years old in 1966, so my list could have also included: Windy - THE ASSOCIATION (first band I ever saw in concert, in 1970) Happy Together - TURTLES Last Train to Clarksville - MONKEES .... and several other less cool responses! I guess part two of this thread would be: "SONGS THAT MADE YOU WANT TO ACTUALLY THROW SOMETHING AT T

Thru and thru closed a season of the sopranos - fantastic choice. I had hoped that the series finale would close with sleep tonight - which would have also been fantastic and not totally out of the question as the producers were stones fans

I visited there in 88. Just got a cab driver to take us up - no problem. He met the caretaker who showed us around. Got a photo of me on his balcony in front of a painting of Greg Isaacs. Had a phonograph and stack of vintage 45s and albums by the door - two sofas facing each other (one with a 6 inch burn hole in it). Great views of the bay.

Umm ... don't get why they bothered to put make-up on him - he could easily have just walked on (on some days, wouldn't have had to change out of his street clothes)

I've always thought it would have been lifted by giving it the 'HTW' treatment - (meaning rock it up with some of Keith's signature electric raunch, rather than the simple acoustic backing).I can hear it with a kicking electric rhythm and double-stop riffs coming in on the choruses pumping it along - the straight country treatment sounds weak in the context of the rest of SF

I think this guy really hits on a lot of truth as to MJ's experience over the years - Also agree that Keith's soul is more revealed thru his amazing string of ballads over the last 30 years.

my favorite as well - this along with GS left my initial imprint of the mature stones style. The arrangement is much more 'lush' than what came before or after. I attribute that to Keith having time to layer multiple parts down to give it the thick flavor it has. I also have heard the comparisons to Layla's segue - but the difference is that the Layla Coda dissipates the energy of

Quotedeadegad An NS tour release would be great! I love the video of the Stones which was shown just before they came on stage. It showed them walking down dark industrial, factory like hallways, getting on industrial elevators, all the while scowling and moving like they were outlaws in a western heading to an impending gunfight. It was brilliant! I also love that they played Some Girls li

If they had gone down in a spectacular plane crash after their last show in 72 - their legend would have been off the charts - nothing they have done - or could have done since could have moved the needle. The other contributing factor is that that was the last moment (past the last moment) where rock and roll was the center of the culture in a way that it never was after. So it was the momen

If you want something that swings and crunches like Sticky Fingers - check out Joe's Lord Of The Highway - it has my favorite line-up featuring David Grissom on guitar - who gets as close to KR as anyone around. A real smoker.

OOT at least has some signature Keith strumming in the background, giving it a little soul. The thing with SOL is that THE ENTIRE TRACK MUSICALLY HAS NO HINT OF THE STONES IN IT - could have been played by any faceless studio hacks - totally generic

The great tune 'I Dont Wanna Know' hit about the same time as PMS - and is a great contrast in over-singing (Mick), versus cool under-singing (wolf). The vibe on Dont Wanna Know is cool and Stonsey, more like the early 70's than PMS, IMO.

Quotestoneswashed77 Quotemstmst While I agree to some extent - what are the great EC songs written in his career? or the last 15 yrs? Some - but not many (no compare to the Stones output/quality) - In interviews he indicates that his producers ID songs for his albums and (very surprisingly to me) He'll lay down multiple takes on recorded solos - then let the producer chop them together for t
