TD from the boots (not the release) is one of the band's great moments on stage especially the versions that accentuate Taylor's playing. What he could not play during the '72 LG movie he played in Brussels and the band's performance is indeed a symphony.

LOVE with Arthur Lee: This show is nothing short of spectacular. Glad to see him persist, find a solid band and get some "love" before his passing.

What stuck in my mind from the Forum '69 2nd show is not Jagger, but Keith. It was a strong show by him as the tape (heard decades later) confirmed. He was so angular, square shouldered, his knees, arms, wrist connected to his playing. And it all looked so easy. I never thought there was enough footage to match the impact of him on my memory at that time. This footage is imperfect. I w

Route 66 is a Bobby Troup song. He died in 1999 and soon after the band added the song to the live set list as a tribute. The US interstate system made Route 66 obsolete, but in late 1960 my family piled into the car and made that trip from Chicago to LA. Wigwam hotels and all sorts of travel oddities along the way. When we arrived in LA my Dad's left arm was tanned bronze.

When the album was released a LA radio station announced that it would play it in full with breaks after each side. I was at a laundromat just east of the Forum in Inglewood and got some dirty looks from a woman who thought I was not moving my laundry along fast enough because I was sitting in my car until a side finished before dashing in and tending to my clothes. A few weeks later I saw the

I think the band sounds a bit tired in San Diego. Why? This is the 6th show in the 4th city in 4 days. It is very possible that they played 3 shows the day before as the 2nd show at the Forum on the 8th commenced around 2:00 a.m. Nonetheless the long available recording of this show is a nice one and it is the band in 1969, so well worth a listen.

The Beatles A Hard Day's Night and The Rolling Stones NOW. I think each is the best of the bands' early albums.

In August of '01 (Gads! Was it that long ago?) I was sitting with a friend in the bar at 19 Broadway in Fairfax, California listening to MT's soundcheck. Our ears perked up and heads spun around when we realized he was playing his version of this song. To my knowledge MT had not yet played it live and the debut would not come for a few weeks. But it was a nice moment...What!!??

The Farewell Tour I show from Melbourne has been popping up on TV. I highly recommend it. The band looks and sounds great. The lanky Schmit and Smith are fun to watch. It is wonderfully shot. The cameras are where they should be. There is a warmth in the band. It is finally at peace with itself, confident and comfortable with its legacy. The performances are deliberate, precise and unapol

"If Keith's solo presents a primordial Lucifer, Taylor's presents the Prince of Darkness in all his splendor, majestic and beguilingly playful." (Shamefully quoting myself)

No sax solo. London, 1st on the 8th is the only one I know of without a sax solo that sounds this good. My favorite live version of this song. Recorded by this board's own Silver Dagger, I believe. The intro does not make any sense. Dubbed?

At the Forum in Inglewood, CA on November 8, 1969 there was an afternoon hockey game followed by two Stones concerts that included the well known supporting acts of Terry Reid, BB & Ike & Tina. To my memory the Stones did not take the stage for the 2nd show until 2:00 a.m. On the very fine boot of this show you can hear Jagger allude to the late/early hour saying "If we had known w

I am not sure if there are multiple recordings of this show, but you can clearly see a taper at the front of the stage in the GS movie. I once synched the video of SFTD with the audio tape and could see the tussling in front of the stage and hear it on the tape. The taper you could see was in the midst of it. Good for him for hanging in there. At some point this show settles down and it'

Bought this on vinyl from a record store in Isla Vista (Santa Barbara), California. Still have it, I think, somewhere. Got it because I was at this show. An average at best audience recording as I recall. But as time goes by its historical significance out weighs its short comings. Has an encore, too. Saw the band there is '69 and '73 as well.

There is a wonderful video of Robbie Robertson & Ringo and a world-wide assortment of musicians playing The Weight. It is a wonderful song, performance, video and an amazing logistical feat to watch. It has heart and perhaps hope for us all. I hope this link works. Otherwise you can look it up at The Rolling Stone Mag site or You Tube. Sorry if there is an ad. Maybe someone can fix that.

Someone says something, then it gets repeated and it gets tossed around as a given truth. George is the least of the three band songwriters, but still more than holds his own in front of this star-studded cast even after many years of stage absence. The Rooftop Concert is a delight. Paul is still performing and thrilling audiences. John's NYC concert is a compelling demonstration of musi

One wonders what he is thinking at the moment. One other thought about Taylor and TD. In the Montreux sessions during TD 1 Taylor mangles the solo; but during TD 2 he knows exactly

Keith probably thought wow we have picked the right guy here, now i can concentrate on nailing that rhythm guitar and do what i do best, and together we forge the best rock and roll band in the world. I have not noticed Keith restricting Taylor with his playing the way he did Ronnie, one reason i don't believe the official reason Taylor left the band, no way was Keith holding him back in an

QuoteDandelionPowderman 1969? Keith did the main solos on SFTD (save NYC), HTW, LQ, C, GS, LWM and even on BS. And the solo set on PS and YGM, of course. Pretty even back then The one song that defines the evolution of the band during those 3 short weeks is SFTD. Other than a one off solo by Taylor in Oakland SFTD was strictly a Keith solo, Taylor rhythm affair. Somewhere down the line Ta

I cannot think of this song without thinking about how fond I am of the interesting and perplexing Vancouver performance. Are flubs on stage evidence of lack of preparation or rehearsal time? Is it boldness, courage and confidence? Or is it laziness or hubris? Is the performance "real" or simply sloppy? In any event the performance stumbles along for some reason or another until Ta

The Eagles Reunion 1 Tour DVD from Melbourne (recorded in late '04, released in '05) is really, really good. I have never been a big Eagles fan (to this day I hear enough for my taste on the radio), but this performance is hypnotic. Great songs, vocals and guitar-work. Who the heck is Steuart Smith?

Interesting question, again. I saw the band in '69, but have only met one person who saw them earlier. It was in Sacramento the night Keith got zapped. I have only met one person who attended Altamont. She told me she was way back on a hill and had no idea what was going on in front of the stage. I remember sitting in the audience at the Forum in '69 waiting and waiting for the b
