They cut out one verse at least. You can hear this missing verse on the acetate version. And they also "compiled" a large portion of the in-between-songs chatter to get a perfect sequence. Must have worked for hours on end.

I think there's some truth in your view, Eric. Still it's not easy to buy even all interesting boots. I hardly see VGP releases in our German "home market" places and if you try to get them by mail order they're extraordinarily expensive. Thanks for posting this. I'm not shure about that either. My copy is the Outsider Bird Records "original" but it has exactly the same cover as your's apart from a "Limited Edition" tag. I always dreamt of having these sessions in pristine quality, but then again, maybe the wrong pitch thing adds to the myth - just like when you listen to an old blues record.

There's not any lost "opus magnum" as such - like the Beach Boys' "Smile". But coming close IMO is the unreleased Live Album of the 1972 North American Tour. Most of the chosen tracks are out on bootlegs but only few of them are the "polished" versions. You can find some of them on "Very Ancient, Thank You Kindly", posted here some weeks ago.
