I like the Dead, but to me the Airplane are far superior. I admire the whole Deadhead phenomena and culture, but musically the Airplane are miles ahead. The Dead's popularity seemed to mostly stem from them sticking around for 30 years and touring constantly.

Saw them several times in the late '80s/early '90s and actually hung out with them a bit at their hotel after a show in Louisville, KY at the Phoenix Hill Tavern in '90 or '91. Rick Richards put a serious dent in the bottle of Jack Daniels I brought along.

I love the Airplane. Very underrated band. I've seen Kantner, Balin and Casady (or some combination of the three) several times in the past decade or so when they've toured as Jefferson Starship (playing mostly Airplane material) and they've been great every time. I was too young to see them in their prime, but I'm still kicking myself for missing their 1989 reunion tour.

I apologize if this has already been posted before, but the main Brussels Affair thread is very long and I only got as far as page 2. If you want to buy Brussels Affair (I just did, and it kicks ass), here are some handy links: FLAC ($9.00) or MP3 256kbps ($7.00): This may only work if you're in the U.S., but if that's the case you can surf anonymously and therefore should be abl

The Live At Leeds version of My Generation. It would have been a lot cooler if I'd been listening to the Stones, but oh well.

A four song EP might be better than a studio album. Their last three studio albums all had good songs, but the albums as a whole suffered because they were too long and contained too much filler.

Quotetreaclefingers QuoteRocky Dijon True, edit out the line "Sharks Will Cry" and the album plays much better. And the 'job listing' in YGMR. Agree with both of those sentiments.

QuoteSleepy City QuoteDragonSky I gave up on Sweethearts Together. It's just horrible dribble about 'oh here we are being friends again and oh we really are friends and we're going to make loads of money being friends again' kind of sap. And the song is sappy. Ronnie's slide work is the only good thing about the track. It's a pity they (more or less) stopped givin

QuoteDragonSky I do but it doesn't include So Young since that's really more of a Some Girls track. I know this is 13 songs but it seems better: Love Is Strong (Bob Clearmountain Remix) You Got Me Rocking Sparks Will Fly Jump On Top Of Me The Storm (Mono version) The Worst (3:08 version) Moon Is Up Out Of Tears I Go Wild (Scott Litt remix) I'm Gonna Drive Brand New Car

Yeah, almost everybody agrees that some songs need to go, but few people agree on which ones. For me, I'm not much of a ballad guy. If I had to include one from this album it would be Out Of Tears (and New Faces, which is kinda sorta a ballad). I really, really dislike Blinded By Rainbows and Sweethearts Together, tho. Maximum sap factor. The rockers on Voodoo Lounge are much better.

Tour, no matter how scary it may get. The vaults are going to open sooner or later, but a new tour is no guarantee. Trouble is, the vaults may not open until after the Stones are dead, and though I'm 30 years younger than Jagger I fear he may still outlive me. So if the choice was "open the vaults now because you won't live to see their inevitable opening OR new tour," I&#

I always listen to studio albums all the way through; if it's a live album or a compilation (either an official one or one I made) I may skip around. I believe that's the way they're meant to be listened to, although my girlfriend (who's 7 years younger than me) and her teenage daughter don't agree. They say I'm a fossil, I tell them they have the attention spans of

Most of us seem to be in agreement that every Stones album since Steel Wheels has been too long and could have benefited from some editing. Voodoo Lounge, for example, is much better with a few omissions and the inclusions of some b-sides. My edited version goes like this: 1. Love Is Strong 2. You Got Me Rocking 3. Sparks Will Fly 4. Moon Is Up 5. I Go Wild 6. The Worst 7. Jump On Top Of

I hadn't ever seen that, that's pretty cool. And it's funny seeing a thread I started six years ago resurected. Most of my brain cells from 2005 are dead, but the thread lives on!

It didn't. It's you. You're old and and out of touch with new music. There's always been plenty of good new music and bad new music being made and that's still the case.

Nearly everyone agrees that A Bigger Bang was too long and would have benefited if some songs had been left out, but opinions differ on which ones should have been included and in which order. My own personal A Bigger Bang edit goes like this: 1. Rough Justice 2. Back Of My Hand 3. Oh No Not You Again 4. It Won't Take Long 5. Under the Radar 6. Laugh, I Nearly Died 7. She Saw M

I have it from Dylan 30th anniversary but it's in storage; anybody have an MP3 they can post so I can blare it on the stereo and make a case for best Dylan cover ever? Loser picks up the impending bar tab, lol.
