You know how when they have the halftime show at the Superbowl there are always a couple hundred people on the field, crowded around the stage, appearing to provide the acts with an improptu audience? Who are these people? I'm pretty sure they don't have tickets to the game and don't get to see any of it. More likely, they are assembled outside the stadium during the first half as

Let me tell you a little about ferrante. He goes on the Macca site and says shit like "Oh my goodness! The Stones have sold more tickets than Paul! This is terrible news for us Macca fans!" Then he goes on the Stones site and says "Oh no! Paul's album is better than the Stones album! The Stones have again been humbled by the Beatle! This is terrible news for us Stones fans!&qu

I didn't tape it so I can't quote their conversation exactly, but she says something like "not only is the music great, but the effects are the best". I can't even begin to describe how uncool these people were. The kind of people who don't even own a copy of 40 Licks.

The show started with this couple watching TV. The chick is CRYING and shit because they just watched some old movie. Then she says "Oh my God, I forgot this was gonna be on, it's the new Rolling Stones video!" Then they have a conversation about the Stones and how she has to get tickets to see them because "the effects are the greatest!" Then we see the entire SOL video.

Was that mouth and tongue logo PAINTED on the back wall of the club? Like they're supposed to be the house band there or something?

I liked how at the end of the video, the guy says (sarcastically?) "That was great!" and then chucks the remote down on the table!

The problem with this album is that it contains no instrumentals. There would be a HUGE improvement if MT's vocals could be erased from half the tracks.

Okay, here's my Badfinger story: About 10 years ago, in the midwestern town where I live, there was this guy, an auto mechanic, I think, who wanted to promote concerts at the local Moose Lodge where he was a member. I think the first act he tried to promote was "The Byrds" or rather, a couple of guys who may or may not have briefly been members of the Byrds near the end of thei

What if they did the whole show there, on a stage the size of a boxing ring in the middle of the stadium? Wouldn't you be bored?

Believe it or not, Keith has actually denied that he "sings" on this. Or rather, he disowns it. There's an old RS interview where he was asked if this was his lead vocal debut and he says something like "Please. The first time I sang on a Stones record was when I sang the first verse of Salt of the Earth".

I said in another thread that Satisfaction is the ultimate B-stage song, and that PIB, Cloud, and Breakdown are, or would be, excellent choices as well. For me, at least, seeing them play these songs on a small stage where they have to stand close to one another evokes memories of seeing them on the Ed Sullivan Show. It helps to put them in their proper historical perspective. Corny as hell, I kn

I once popped in to visit a musician friend of mine and caught him listening to Badfinger's Straight Up LP. I asked him if he was familiar with the band's tragic history. He wasn't, so I told him about it. He sat there for a few minutes, then, totally deadpan, made the suggestion that for the cover of some future greatest hits release, they ought to have an artist do a painting of

After the hanging suicides of two of its members (Pete Ham in '75 and Tom Evans in '83), drummer Mike Gibbins (1949-2005) becomes the first member of this band to die of (apparently) natural causes. Joey Molland, age 58, is now Badfinger's last surviving member.

I'll give you all the highlights: Ronnie says he wants to turn up the volume on his guitar, but is afraid Keef will kill him if he does. Charlie says he has no problem with the idea of the Stones someday going on without him. Mick says he doesn't care if you want to hear Brown Sugar instead of some new song. Clearly, that statement makes no sense whatsoever. Brown Sugar has

Good documentary, but I didn't think it quite lived up to all the hype. I won't be running out to buy the DVD or anything. The color footage from '66 was amazing, though. A friend of mine actually thought it was a colorized version of Don't Look Back! My favorite part was when that old guy kept asking Bob to suck on his glasses.

Something the Who used to do to great effect was the "false ending". About halfway throught the set, they'd do a few numbers from Tommy or Quadrophenia that would have the crowd so delirious they could have walked off right then and there, after only an hour or so, and no one would have complained. Then they'd do another hour and a half that the crowd, already feeling well-sat

I very clearly remember being blown away by 19th Nervous Breakdown when I first heard it, at age 6, on my friend's mother's car radio. As for the current version, I like what the reviewer in the NY Times said about it: "It's supposed to be a song about panic, but slowed down and played at half-speed, it sounds more like a song about hot tub therapy!"
