QuotePaddy In a lot of ways, Noel Gallagher was more of a “spokesperson for a generation” than Cobain was. (The other “voice of a generation”) Those first 2 albums, and the amazing singles they released at that time, were amazing times. Some of the B sides were better than most bands album material.... Whatever wasn’t on any album! I couldn’t agree with you more, on both of your points

QuoteBig Al Quoteslew Most of Exile On Main Street. I was late to the party. When I got into the Stones around 77-78 it was one of the last albums I got and I didn't think that much of it. Always liked Rocks Off, TD, Happy and All Down the Line but the rest took a while to grow on me. I now listen to it often and think it is their finest work. In fact I don't think that there is a

QuoteBig Al Exile is a funny one for me: rarely do I reach for it, yet every time I do so, I'm transfixed. It works superbly as a complete listening experience. I completely understand Big Al, you expressed that perfectly. Bravo!

QuoteMisterDDDD Love Kris.. Have seen him many times over the decades, once with Merle Haggard in a small club like setting some years back. As good a human as he is a writer/performer imo. Legend.. hope he continues to make an occasional appearance. Met him once after a show in San Antonio. From the stage he called out to my Father-in-Law (Whom I didn’t believe knew him...they were High

QuoteBowieStone QuoteLeonidP I got the first album too, Shake Your Money Maker, and I liked it a lot at the time -- still do! But I could never understand how they maintained a following after that, I was lost after Southern Harmony myself. Amorica is their greatest record. I agree...Three Snakes is good too, but Amorica is their peak.

QuoteRockman Aint it truely strange how one can recognize certain people from behind even though you've never seen the back of them before .... I read every one of your posts hearing Keith’s voice in my mind.

Ouch Hairball! Give a good listen to The Southern Harmony And Musical Companion and Amorica. They borrowed, but everyone does. Particularly the Juke Joint band this site is dedicated to. Just because they borrow doesn’t mean they can’t come up with their own spin on the goods.

QuoteMongoose At the end of last night's episode on NBC, they played a nice gospel version of You Can't Always Get What You Want. Normally, when I hear a Stones cover on TV or something, I don't think much about it. But this version was particularly nice. Any idea who sang it? Can’t Always Get What You Want – AG, Aloe Blacc

QuoteBig Al QuoteTKinOH they never toured extensively outside the US after about '80 w DLR. They did headline smaller European venues with Sammy in '93 though... It's interesting to note on setlist.fm that, in the U.K. alone, Van Halen performed 22 shows in 1978: it then took them another sixteen years to total the same number of performances on the island. I know the fandom

QuoteDGA35 Rattler and TK, do you recall the opening acts in the 80s and 90s? One thing I didn't like about original VH was the terrible opening acts 81 The Fools, 82 After The Fire, 84 some rockabilly band that got booed big time. Played maybe 20 minutes then off the stage. Actually felt sorry for them. 86 got a couple Canadian acts, Tom Cochrane w/Red Rider and a reformed BTO. 91 Alic

Saw them in ‘79 (actually got to meet all of the band at an in store meet and great signing at a Peaches Record Store) 1980, 1981, 1982, 1984. All in Cleveland 2004..San Antonio 2008..San Antonio 2012..San Antonio 2015..Austin The 1981 show was my favorite...I thought the band was done after seeing them in 2004, Eddie looked so bad onstage. He was dazzling in 2015.

Quotedrewmaster QuoteMathijs With rock bands, I think American bands are more flash, more theatrics, more 'good fun', whereas European bands tend to be more serious and self conscious. The difference between Stones and Aerosmith. American bands more often have this entertainment, or Las vegas aspect to them. Wow! My view is exactly the opposite. So many European (often British) ar

QuoteMathijs Quoterattler2004 Randy was great no doubt about it, but he was nowhere near the player Eddie Van Halen was...nowhere near...the man even admitted it himself in an interview or two before he died. If you think Randy was greater then either you don’t know Eddie Van Halen’s music well, or you don’t know much about music. This is taking personal taste out of the equation. Yes
