Before Brian's departure the Rolling Stones to me were these five amazing musicians, my "big brothers". Brian's departure and sudden death sort of changed my emotional link to the band. They became a powerful entity worth breaking the "laws" for (don't worry, I didn't become a criminal ). Nothing could stop them. Off course I, in no way, could have believe

Quoteslewan Quoteribbelchips I was in the front on Keith's side and it was really bad. Not as bad as the Amsterdam Arena shows I visited, but bad. Stood on the exact same spot at the London Olympics show a year later and man... HUGE difference. I have been to the Arnhem show in 2017 as well as to the two London shows in 2018. I was in the pit on Keith side at all three shows and there was

Quoteslewan Quotejackflash27 Stones in Holland seems a 'certainty' this year, but where? The Stones have a long history with gigs in the Netherlands and I'm sure it's a safe bet that 'we' will get a concert again this summer. I'm curious what venue it will be. Possible options with estimated capacity: - Amsterdam Arena (50.000) - Arnhem Gelredome (40.000)

QuoteMKjan Me thinks Rod might crack along the way, or employ some hi tech tapes. No he won't ... didn't anybody tell you that he will be taking a luxary chair along as to sit down on from time to time during his show (maybe with a nice blonde girl on his lap as to hide his true lack of energy). Besides he may sing a bunch of Sinatra songs in order not to put too much pressure on his

Nice footage. And historic indeed. Another "rumour" was that basically only kids whose parents were member(s) of the Communist Party could get tickets. Long live equality & democracy ... You can't blame those kids though. It is good to see that they spontaniously enjoyed the concert and for sure some of them remained Stones fans all their lives. I love Bill's hotel bill

It was enjoyable, as ever, to watch, but ... there could have been so much more to tell about him. The stories by Phelge for instance. Korner told much more about him on the days he slept in his home for instance. Some of his Cheltenham school mates had interesting stories, some of his temporary colleagues (when Brian had all those different short period jobs) had stories to tell for instance. Br

Quotebv QuoteSpodlumt Why does everybody around here act as if Charlie Watts is not dead? The "Charlie Watts Dies at 80" thread have got more than 1,300 posts and 250,000 reads. Why do you talk in behalf of "everybody", when surely we all do know that Charlie is no longer with us? Apart from bv's statistics, I like to make a point to Spodlumt. Whether we like it or

Quotedcba Quote24FPS That was fun. I think Mick was giving Brian Jones the 'Don't overplay your harmonica part' look. so Mick hated musicians who "gab" as early as 64? I thought he got this allergy while working with Mick Taylor... Naaah, don't think so. It's just a routine look as singers do when one of the instrumentalist does his part. I think Keith is d

QuotePlink QuoteIrix Bill Wyman or Marshall Chess will (have to) find a letter of RSR in their archives with date (hopefully from end of 1970) that proves the sheet of paper with the tongue stamp is definitively from 1970. Is there a solid lead that such letters exist in Chess' or Wyman's collections? I've read most of the posts but must have missed this bit (apologies). T

There are so many good/great live albums of the Rolling Stones, meaning that over the past decades I never listed to LYL stadium recordings (after I had listened to them quite a few times in the early days). As someone says, it's a cheaply made compilation. On the other hand I still do listen frequently to the El Mocambo part. It's so much fun listening to that. Crackin Up is my favouri

Quotebv What We Can Learn From How the 1918 Pandemic Ended (New York Times Jan 31, 2022) Most histories of the 1918 influenza pandemic that killed at least 50 million people worldwide say it ended in the summer of 1919 when a third wave of the respiratory contagion finally subsided. Yet the virus continued to kill. A variant that emerged in 1920 was lethal enough that it should have counted

Great to see those pictures! My mind immediately went back to Bristol's Colston Hall where I saw the Stones on the 9th of March that year. The picture that exilestones showed must have been from another concert, judging from Keith's clothes. In those days they didn't change clothes yet during a performance. In Bristol Mick jumped on stage to start with that cap on his head. Look a
