When these two legendary groups went head to head in the 1960's, there is just no comparison. The Beatles were selling out Shea Stadium in 1965 (55,000 seats) while the Stones were filling halls and auditoriums half that size. The chart success of the Beatles vs. the Stones is another no contest win for the Fab Four. The rest is just a matter of taste. The Stones ruled the 70's afte

Just what sort of demand do you think the next Rolling Stone tour will have? It seemed to peak with Steel Wheels. The Voodoo Lounge tour sold more tickets, but they played more dates. Some dates on the Lounge tour (Indy) were half full. Birmingham and New Orleans were sell outs on the Steel Wheels tour but 3/4 capacity on Voodoo Lounge. Orlando was the same on the BB tour. Have they peaked?

I grew up on midnight showings of Gimme Shelter and Ladies and Gentlemen the Rolling Stones. When I saw the 78 tour in New Orleans I expected to see a reworking of the 69 and 72 tour. I did not! I saw a much funnier and clown styled Jagger. Even though the dancing and prancing was very different, it was still the greatest show on Earth. I loved the new material from Some Girls...so that wasn

That's the funny thing about the rehearsals....his voice is not shot. I was shocked the first time I heard this boot.

A setlist that would only include rarities would be enjoyable for the die-hards, but confusing to most. What some fans want is a private concert...that probably will not happen. You've got to have Brown Sugar, Jumping Jack Flash, Honky Tonk Women, etc. I saw Plant and Page and they did not perform Stairway to Heaven...certainly their most famous song, arguably the most famous rock song of

I too recall that article in either Look or Life magazine. Rolling Stone truly slagged the tour. I saw the Stones twice on the 81 tour. Orlando was okay...but the December 5 in the Superdome saw the Stones rocking like crazy. I don't know...the guitar sound was different. I'm not a gear head...but something was different in the sound of Keith's guitar on the 81 tour....the cru

I have the Handsome Girls set and it is wonderful. I also have an audience recording of a show I attended during the Tattoo You tour at Orlando. (It was Bill Wyman's birthday and we sang Happy Birthday to him.) Of course the sound is different due to the recording methods....but I was curious what you guys thought about the best recordings of these two tours. How do they compare? Handso

I saw the Stones at the New Orleans Superdome on July 13, 1978. First an unknown Van Halen, then Doobie Brothers, and finally the Rolling Stones. If anyone knows what time they hit the stage, please let me know. It seemed very late. I have heard various reports about the bad sound of that tour, but not from where I was standing (down front dead center with the masses). During Street Fighting

Videos have been with us for many many years now. The Stones have been around film since the 1960s, but their video output has been somewhat spotty. I loved the early raw videos like Respectable, but what do you guys say about their videos? Harlem Suffle was great....but for a band with so much charisma and so much stage presense, their videos come up short. What say you?

Hear are a couple of video / concert mistakes. Rolling Stones to the Max: It's Only Rock 'n' Roll, Jagger starts to sing the chorus while Keith and Ron are still playing the verse. The look on all of their faces was a classic. 94 Voodoo Lounge Video from Giants Stadium: Street Fighting Man is just a mess. Jagger, Richards and Wood get completely lost in the song and it almost

July 13, 1978: Jagger's microphone goes dead after the intro to Brown Sugar. He eventually grabs another microphone from the drum riser. Boy, was he pissed.

Under My Thumb was just a great opener, no doubt about it. There are so many great songs, but I'm all for opening with Under My Thumb. I'm also for bringing back Beast of Burden to the set list.

I've heard people slag off the Stones and the Beatles. That is so funny. The only response to give these people is...."That says a lot about your musical taste and nothing about the Rolling Stones."

I recall the cover of Rolling Stone magazine that featured Jagger and Richards during the 78 tour. I picked up the magazine ready to read the great reviews about the tour. I believe the writer was Chet Flippo and he slagged the tour and the Stones. Jagger was very bitter and had the Rolling Stone people thrown off of the tour. The next issue had many, many letters to the editor protesting the

Shattered: The Doobie Brothers did follow VH at the Superdome in New Orleans. I'm not sure about the Silverdome. Saw Satana open for them in Orlando 97...great show.

I saw the Spin Doctors open for them at Florida Field. VH received a great ovation that day. I do recall the back of the Diver Down album photo. VH wasted a great opportunity....they could have carried on the Stone's legacy. The New Orleans show in 78 also featured the Doobie Brothers.

What was the best opening act you ever saw at a Rolling Stone's concert? Van Halen (David Lee Roth version) gets my vote. An unknown Van Halen opened for the Stones in New Orleans in 78 and again in Orlando in 1981. The Black Crowes certainly were not the worst act, but maybe the biggest dissappointment. I saw them open for the Stones at Wembley in 95. They seemed very disinterested.

The 69 tour and the 72 tour featured Jagger the stud. 75 and 78 were more clownish. You might say 81 had an athletic look to it. Of all the many tours, Which Mick Jagger was your favorite and why? Thanks!

Hi Nikolai.......I was there in July of 78 for the Rolling Stones at the New Orleans Superdome show.....it was fantastic. I was right down front and the show was high - nonstop energy from the start. It's still the best rock and roll show I have ever seen. I saw the Stones on the 81 tour in Orlando and the Superdome. I thought the Orlando show was sub-par...they killed again at the Dome.

July 13, 1978....the Stones at the Dome. One of the best shows I have ever seen. Van Halen, Doobie Brothers, and then the Stones. It was great. Nothing like the first time. I loved the Jagger of 78..........what a contrast in dancing to the cock-sure strutting of 72.
