QuoteBig Al There are a number of 60’s hits and well-known ‘Brian-era’ recordings that are rarely played, or never at all. Many of these have warhorse potential, or, at least, deserve more regular exposure on stage: Heart of Stone, It’s All Over Now, The Last Time, etc. Time is on My Side is, in my opinion, long overdue for a comeback. Why She’s a Rainbow – one of their most well-known numbers –

QuoteDandelionPowderman QuoteCongratulations Like A Rolling Stone, as it was their biggest post-'83 UK hit. Also, Mixed Emotions (though unfortunately I think Mick would struggle to perform it nightly these days). Was it a bigger hit than Harlem Shuffle? #5 in the US, #1 in New Zealand and #3 in the European Hot 100 charts. Harlem Shuffle was a UK #13, Like A Rolling Stone got to #12.

One of my very favourite songs! Pure brilliance just like everything they wrote during the Aftermath/Between The Buttons era. Steve Harley did an interesting acoustic version a couple of years back, a sort of 'mash-up' with HTW:

I just contacted Norton records, suggesting that they issue a CD. Some of these certainly deserve to be more widely heard! Here's Bloodshot Bill's version of 'High and Dry':

Most of those Norton singles are included in the book. Wish they'd reissue them all on CD!

I very nearly included that one (if ever I do a similar book on The Beatles, I must include her great cover of 'The Ballad of John & Yoko'!).

For anyone interested, I did a UK radio interview about the book yesterday (you won't learn anything new about the Stones, but it's quite good fun!)...

QuoteUGK56 A cover version of "Paint It Black" shouldn't go unmentioned in my opinion. "Rot Und Schwarz" by Czech pop singer/crooner Karel Gott (1939-2019), called "The Golden Voice from Prague", who was also famous in Germany and Austria. A rather idiosyncratic interpretation in German. I included artists and genres from around the world, but I must confe

Quotebitusa2012 QuoteDGA35 Wow, I must be getting old. On this page, 66, I've heard of 4 of these people! I’m MUCH younger than you then! Up until your post on this page, 66, I’ve heard of 5 of these people. Not including Rockman… oh wait… Ditto! Certainly on this page (66), Kat Kramer is the only one I've heard of, and that is only because I stumbled on her (mostly excellent)

Quotevertigojoe Luxury Play with Fire Hope you enjoy these. Mike. Very nice versions! Covers of 'Luxury' are rare... I ended up including a rough run-through by the Hammersmith Gorillas that wasn't released until decades later (great vocal though):

Quotestonesstein Looks like an amazing work and a real labor of love - congratulations, Congratulations! Curious as to what inspired you to omit certain covers like Flesh for Lulu's Jigsaw Puzzle, Rickie Lee Jones' Sympathy for the Devil, and a real classic (IMHO) Grand Funk's Gimme Shelter? NO criticism intended, just curious, and thanks again for sharing! Thank you!

QuoteWitness Yes, impressive list! What about the Slovenian band Laibach's versions of "Sympathy for the Devil"? Haha! Problem with the 'warhorses' of course is that there are so many different versions to choose from. I like it when artists cover a relatively obscure song, and then very much make it their own. For example, I'd never choose Frank Black &

Quotexke38 That's a most impressive list - presumably all studio versions on official releases? All are officially released recordings, but some (Blue Öyster Cult, Transvision Vamp, Terence Trent D’Arby, The Dream Syndicate, Ronnie Lane & Slim Chance + a few others) are from officially released live recordings rather than studio.

Below is a full list of what is in my book... I tried to include at least one cover version of pretty much every Decca era song (I was particularly keen to represent all of 'Between The Buttons', my favourite album!), plus a good selection from all albums afterwards and even a handful of RS solo tracks. Hi all, I recently published a new book that may (or may not) be of interest: UNDERCOVER: 500 ROLLING STONES COVER VERSIONS THAT YOU MUST HEAR! by Peter Checksfield Mick and Keith learned fast. Initially Rhythm ‘n’ Blues purists who believed that only ageing black Americans could write decent songs, they released their first original song ‘Stoned’ (a group-composed near-instrument
