I went to Purdue and Neil Armstrong was of course legendary there. As I was graduating they were finally building a building in his honor. Quite appropriatly it is shaped in a star. RIP Neil.

This will be cool to get. I have loved this concert since I first saw it. While it has its flaws both visually and performance wise (Townshend forgets the words to However Much I Booze, even though he has the lyrics in front of him) its still one I can't wait to get. Hopefully they'll include other footage from the 75 tour!

Quote71Tele Quotebatcave That's nice....now where is the deluxe version of Let It Be? Next year, according to my impeccable source. The Beatles could just release the Purple Chick 86 CD collection of Get Back/Let It Be. It could retail for a couple thousand, and be called "The Super Super Super Super Deluxe Get Back: Every Fart, groan, chord, argument, lyric and occasional music rec

Quotebelubettlo I can live without Vegas'70s. Perhaps, reputation-wise, he should have done a James Dean. This is how I prefer to remember him. Sound aside one of my favorite Elvis performances is the December 56 show on the Young Man with the Big Beat. I've wanted a 1957 tour concert, but none seem to exist, so this is as close as people who didn't see him at that point can

STAR TREK! One thing that was interesting to me about the 60's is that there were two distinct era's existing at once. Allow me to explain: In the US people in their 40's had lived through the Great Depression, two wars and about to face another. The "Greatest Generation" had their music (Sinatra, Martin, Lawrence Welk, Etc) and the younger generation had their own (R

No matter how many times I hear this song, it still sends chills down the spine, kind of like hearing that opening riff of Johnny B Goode. Its even more poignant when you hear it played within the confines of Sun and realize your standing right where one of THE most important songs in Rock N Roll and pop culture was recorded.

I've been listening to the new FTD set "A Boy From Tupelo". The document of Elvis' pre-RCA days is fascinating. This was before the movies, Vegas, and jump suits. This was a teenager who was trying to make it big. Its great if you have some spare change to pick it up quickly before it sells out.

I watched the Who's performance with interest and could only think one thing: why couldn't they do this at the Super Bowl? Three songs, shortened, but performed excellently! I will say I am pissed off at NBC here in the colonies. They included the Pet Shop Boys but couldn't find time for Ray Davies? Unexcusable.

Quotebelubettlo @vudicus 0: Quote I have an un-heard master tape of Elvis with Dewey Cox. It's an unreleased album called "The King & Cox". Sounds interesting, and sounds as if it could be worth money to you. Be careful the tape doesn't decay before you hear it. You should check out Dewey Cox's memoir. He recalls an incidence when he and Elvis (along with Bud

I was watching one of my favorite movies, High Fidelity, and saw this question referenced about Stevie Wonder. I thought, why not try and come up with a list for the Stones? This isn't meant to dig at the band, but lets face it, the 80's were not kind to most of the dinasour acts, the Stones not excluded. So here is my list: 5. Dancing in the Streets Jagger and Bowie-ok not Stones per

I think its funny that people would think Mick would be offended or embarresed by this remark. Townshend and Jagger have known each other for years. Mick probably expects comments like this from Pete and welcomes them. Its free publicity and I doubt Mick will pass that up. To say Pete is unclassy is a bit unfair. Pete's problem sometime is he speaks off the cuff and people take it the wron

Quotelatebloomer QuoteHappy Jack Along with the Soprano's, Mad Men belongs to that rare category of excellent TV shows of late. For its sixth season I hope we can here a Stones song. We heard a Beatles song and a couple Dylan numbers. They already used Satisfaction in one episode, I think in season 5. It was season 4 episode 8 (I'm coming up to the episode as I watch the show). With the news that the Quad tour will be played with a minimalist band, I am hoping for a few things. First I hope that the songs will be more similar to the 1973-74 tour versions, e.g a full band version of Drowned. I like Pete's acoustic version, but man seek out the version from the Spectrum 73 and the songs rocks. Chris Stainton plays the piano on the album version of this also. Secondly

I'd like to comment on "The Two" as people are calling them. Here some points of fact: Zak Starkey has been playing drums longer with the Who than Keith Moon (Moon 14 years, Starkey 16 years, he started in 1996). Keyboardist Rabbit Bundrik has been with the group since 1979, 32 years. Pete's Brother and Pino Palladino have been with the band 10 years. I would hardly say that a

Thanks Filstan. I agree about Chicago having many great venues, especially around that Wicker Park area. Back on topic, I've always felt that Sunny Afternoon was a much better and witty attack on the British Tax system than Taxman. THe lyrics are more tongue in cheek and sound less like a rich person lamenting the system, and more like a peasent sarcastically viewing the system from a ric

Quotefilstan I was at this gig in 1969. The Kinks opening for The Who was amazing. This was The Kinks first time back in the States for what 4-5 years? Their catalogue was as good as anyones in those days. I was so jacked to finally see those guys. It turned out to the firtst of many Kinks gigs for me. Yoiu nenver knew what you would get from them. They could be quite volatile as they liked t

Somewhere here I posted the tracklisting for the BBC set. Looks good. BTW, I think one of the most interesting concerts of all time must have been on October 31, 1969 at the Electric Factory in Chicago: THe kinks opened for the Who. THe former was returning to the US for the first time in 4 years, the latter was finally breaking big after 5 years. Both bands were promoting brilliant albums. Its

As others have said The Kinks output from 1966-1971 was in the same league as the Rolling Stones, Who, or other contemporaries. Sadly they are overlooked in the US save for a handful of early songs, Lola and Come Dancing. However, I think Ray wrote some beautiful songs: God's Children Shangri-La Celluloid Heroes Waterloo Sunset Songs like these were nothing short of masterpieces!
