QuoteRisingStone My first Stones shows were the Steel Wheels U.S. Tour, Pittsburg, 6 September and also Cincinnati 14 September. And my impression of the stage was the same as yours — it was huge, so huge, so gigantic. Astonishing. Jaw-dropping is the word to describe my first reaction when I saw it. Seeing is believing. Yes it was like a factory from the future. Without that monstrous structure,

QuoteRisingStone QuoteCaptainCorella QuoteRisingStone Many thanks for recollecting the memory of the hectic day, Captain. I am now certain that the dismantled stage for the 13th and 14th was the Urban Jungle stage, not the Steel Wheels one, as the tickets indicate that way. Frankly I can't imagine why that was ever in doubt! Up until the moment that the shows were postponed (on the d

Quotebv I was there. I don't care about stage stuff. I just want to see the band, and hear them play. I saw the Stones both 1989 and 1990, with both stages, but it was the same band, no worries. London 1990 was different, because it was the last two shows with Bill, but that is a different story. My experience was pretty much the same as BV's. I'd seen the first 3 nights of St

QuoteRockman Unsurprisingly that confirms Bill's book. So how come there's an attribution to Dorton Arena? Where the F** did that come from?

QuoteToru A QuoteRockman Hey Yeah ....cool STU shot Tora ..... Where ...when etc etc ??????????????????? caption says, "Dorton Arena, Raleigh, North Carolina, USA 1965". December 12th is the anniversary of Stu's death. Curious. According to Bill's "Rolling With The Stones", they toured the USA in April-May 65 and no North Carolina dates show up on that lis

Back on topic.. Here's an absolutely OUTSTANDING Tom Jones & New Model Army cover of that well known Rolling Stones song... "Gimme Shelter" It was one of 8 or so cover versions done by matching up unlikely artists to cover the same song. They were all issued at the same time on CD singles and on Vinyl (in an attempt to top the charts I think). It was done for a h

Quotemickschix I replied to his post requesting submissions for this publication and because I have quite a story about a show that I attended from this 1972 Tour, I wrote my story, submitted it & he replied saying my story was selected for publication! ( along with 299 other Stones fans who also attended shows from 1972!) Are you one of those selected to be a part of this great new book?

QuoteTopi Wearing my yellow Australia kit today, let's see if that helps, lol. In that case you ought to be very impressed by the fact that we were shoulder to shoulder (nearly, he's rather tall) with the Australian Goalie at a luggage carousel in Sydney Airport a few weeks ago.

Given that Lennon was murdered on the street in New York outside his apartment block, criticising any of these guys who take precautions is wholly out of order. Earlier I noted that McCartney embraces his fame. He does. But he's also careful. Some years back I was involved in organising a public appearance by him and two days before the event I spent a long time with his security guy w

QuoteBig Al I’ve always thought this was a snippet from their first-ever TOTP appearance. I’ve never seen the whole sequence available anywhere. The Stones did "I Wanna Be Your Man" at the first TOTP, so this recording can't be from the first show. (Source Wyman : Rolling With The Stones). As well noted & known, the BBC deleted TV recordings fairly swiftly - and in

QuoteBig Al This was the first of the Stones’ two appearances on TOTP in ‘69, I believe. I’m fact, these backstage shots are from the first appearance, of which, the footage only quite recently surfaced; it’s been posted here on Tell Me before, of course. Hang on there! Are you saying that footage of the FIRST Stones appearance has been found and a link posted on IORR? I can't find it

My understanding is that Stu was only sidelined with respect to on-stage/public issues. eg Photo shoots etc. I was very reliably told that he was always a Rolling Stone and had a vote at meetings.

If topping the Billboard charts is clearly not enough for Paul McCartney of Liverpool. He's now releasing 80 7" singles (159 tracks) in an as yet unstated format. (That's a very big box if it's all on 7" vinyl). Gory details at

QuoteKingbeebuzz That's a very good idea Ironbelly. Do you have a contact number ?? I was of course originally thinking of someone perhaps from this web site. The people who removed the copyright protection bleeps did a very very good job and might be interested in this as a project. QuoteSighunt Interesting little reminisces from a long and distinguished career from Bill. Some of these have been discussed before in other articles I've read. Quotewalkingthedog You are being very unreasonable here. Revolution 9 is a mess of a sound collage - devoid of any musical ideas. About 10 (?) years ago there was a collection of (rather good) musicians touring here in Australia doing a "White Album" show. It was pretty entertaining. First time round they omitted Revolution No.9. The evening was so good that we went again

QuoteIrix QuoteTopi Are there any "Stones sights" worth seeing in either Melbourne and Sydney? Macedon Ranges (near Melbourne), the Hanging Rock site - cancelled twice in 2014. Correct. Quite possibly the only place with a 100% cancellation record for multiple Stones' concerts. Quite a shame actually as it's a wonderful place for a concert.
