aother important album in that it brought in a new generation of stones fans, their best selling studio album ever. I love this album! I dont know why Shattered is so unliked by so many on this site, it is one of my all time faves a perfect riff and lyrics that blend humour and social commentery on NYC. BFTMMR is the best stones song with Keith singing lead they have ever done. Also think Miss Y

Not a great record but a good one. A big improvement from IORR. Standouts for me are Hand of Fate,Memoty Hotel and Hey Negrita.

Might work on a couple songs, Ruby Tuesday and Moonlight Mile come to mind but I don't want strings being played all over the place that would not add anything.

Great song! The only stand out track on the entire album but I agree they never have been able to do a live version that captures the groove of the studio release.

Taylor ruined sfm in 73, his overplaying is laughable, you cant even tell what song is being played the last min or so.

Quotekleermaker yes indeed, the series starting with BB and ending with GHS is just overwhelming. That said I also love Aftermath, Between the Buttons and Their Satanic a lot. "ending with GHS" hmm I think you need to back up one album.

Not only a great album but also the bands most important one. It defined the Stones! it was the launching pad from a really good pop band to one of the best bands of all time. I may slightly prefer Let it bleed and Exile but those could never have been made without having made Beggars first. All praise to Jimmy Miller for producing it as well.

Besides the title track it is a very weak album, their worst album of the 70's by far.

I guess I can't really argue with Dylan being number 1 but i would have put Lennon–McCartney together at number 2 and then the glimmers at number 3.

A huge drop in qulaity of songwriting from their previous 4 albums, the playing is decent but the songs are just not that good except for Heartbreaker and Winter.

QuoteTurner68 QuoteAquamarine QuoteTurner68 QuoteGreen Lady I don't ever remember them being called that in the 60s. right? so it's weird about the intro on ya-ya's saying that, isn't it? This is the first time I've ever heard them referred to by that term. (I didn't even notice that refernce on Ya-Yas.) am i crazy or is that not what chip monk says on ya-ya

I first saw U2 in 1980 and was a big fan until Achtung Baby (their best ablum in my opinion) but it has been a steady decline since then and I lost intrest years ago but I don't understand the blogger's hatred of Bono, he is just a singer, what harm is he doing? There are public people in the world much more worthy of the public's scorn than Bono.

QuoteTurner68 QuoteHairball QuoteNaturalust QuoteHairball QuoteGasLightStreet Hey Negrita - not reggae - how do people keep thinking it is? Because it pretty much is: "All of us, independently and together, were into reggae, and it was also a mood of the time. I had this particular lick that I took into the studio and the others said, What are we going to start with? and I said, I'

unlike most stones classics for some reason i have never thought sftd has ever been great live. other than maybe r&r circus, that one was the closest in getting the feel of the studio version. Lets be honest the studio version was so perfect it is probably impossible to improve on.

QuoteGasLightStreet QuoteKet have to say it's one of their worst ever, sappy and souless. Nope. That, their worst ever, is strictly reserved for the one and only Streets Of Shit. Er, I mean Love. Streets Of Love. that is another bad one I would say they are both shite

QuoteLongBeachArena72 My personal opinions about each band's accomplishments: --Zeppelin I through PHYSICAL GRAFFITTI is a six-album run unequaled in rock history --BEGGARS through EXILE is the greatest 4-album run in rock history Both bands were over and done with by the end of the decade. hmm I don't agree that I or III are great ablums , some great songs but too uneve

a true timeless classic that I recently had the pleasure of 19 year old listen to it for the first time (son of a friend of mine) and he summed it up "Wow!that is one of the best albums i have ever heard" well if 19 year old says that in 2015 then you know this one is special

QuoteBrstonesfan It is not even debatable that the Taylor era was the best... yes it is! I agree there was a golden period from beggars to exile but half of that was recorded without taylor. and i strongly disagree that ghs or iorr were better than some girls or tatoo you. for live? yeah i think 69 was their best ever but i would still rank 75-81 over 72 or 73, so yes it is very debatable

1.Ya'ya's 2.Twickenham 3.Paradiso I actually think Brussels is awful, Taylor went way overboard with this song in 73.
