I'm compiling a set of original versions of songs that inspired the Stones - songs they covered, jammed, etc. And where there are different versions, I'm trying to include them. As a sort of exploration of the songs that inspired the Stone. I'm a bit confused by the The Drifters' Under The Boardwalk. [*] There is a mono single version with the words "falling in love&q

Well I come to this debate from the remastering side, but it is never a bad thing to appreciate the view of 'the other side', you might learn something. I once had an argument, that became a discussion, that became a conversation about all of this with Lostbrook (who's work is always properly mastered by CQ), we became friends in the end. Not only did I gain a friend, but I als

I think people on both sides of the remaster argument need to ask themselves some questions sometimes. As a remasterer we need to ask: [*] why am i doing this? [*] is there something that needs correcting or could be improved? [*] can i correct/improve it or am i just trying to make it sound more to my taste? To my mind, the whole point of remastering is to correct/improve. It's like a

Do you use a proxy? I don't use Bittorrent, I use uTorrent 2.2.1, but I cannot get Dime to work unless I bypass my proxy, most other sites don't mind.

If all else fails I often throw things at a wall, it never helps but it does make me feel better - until I realise what I've done anyway DISCLAIMER: this is NOT a suggestion - don't try this at home! Which reminds me of a true story (seriously). My mate Rob had lost the plot when his stereo wouldn't work, in a fit of anger he threw one of the speakers across the room. At

QuoteRank Stranger QuoteJimmyShelter I think you have the answer there mate. It sounds like you are overloading the input to the soundcard, and if so, then no amount of adjustment in software is going to help. You will need to attenuate the signal somehow. Do you think it might make sense to get a good sound card? I think when it comes to analogue/digital conversion then as good a sound c

QuoteRank_StrangerI have a sneaking suspicion it is a problem with the soundcart, might get too much electrical voltage?! .... Recording from tape = Revox B77, and the results are even worse, because the Revox has a higher output signal... I think you have the answer there mate. As SKILLS says, it's geo locked and sends you to the uk version of the same site. If you really want to access the 'real' page then try using a free proxy server in the US (not usually very effective for the free ones), or a VPN with a server in the US. I use a VPN from Private Internet Access, apart from hiding my IP and being great for torrents, it also allows me to 'pop

Thanks for the comments BV. Being an island has it's advantages, had we not been, who knows what would have happened, but we are, and that bought us time to enable us to serve as a base for all those that joined us. My family were farmers and I'm not aware of anyone being involved in D-Day. They were in the fields and preparing to do whatever was necessary if it all went wrong an

QuoteHMS Is there anyone who can provide a link to a site where official downloads of recent shows by the current line-up of THE WHO are offered? "some time ago" was probably the key there, I don't think any have been available since the 2016 tour. They were available through thewho.com store at the time. They were very good as well Setlists?

QuoteHMS Nowadays the scream comes from tape at least that´s what I´ve been told. Is it a tape? Or is it Simon? I don't know because I haven't really checked out any of this tour's stuff yet. But I had real problems editing some of the 2016 show videos, I couldn't seem to get Roger to stay in sync even though everybody else was! It turned out that Simon was filling in.

I think something that may be a factor is that they are all stepping up their efforts to stop online extremism, especially through videos. That probably means more actual people, as opposed to algorithms, trawling through content. But give someone a bit more power and they will abuse it, they never stop at what they are meant to be doing, so inevitably it will mean more "dangerous to our pro

Quoteexilestones Thanks for your words of experience. I admire your work. Newark 2012, DC 2013, Philly 2013, if my memory serves me correctly are have your hand in them? JimmyShelter is a cool name. They were probably audio remasters. My video work is mostly The Who, I think I only did Glastonbury 2013 of the Stones in video. But thanks Jimmy Shelter, it's just a shot away... H

Quoteexilestones There has to be a simple fix/editing procedure. Does there? Video editing can be a real pain in the @*** sometimes. Very often things just work as you'd expect them to, but sometimes they just won't. If the audio and video will not stay in sync then you are probably going to have to demux it (split audio and video) and resync it in an editor with a timeline feat

Rock On!! MP3s are quite difficult to deal with from a coding point of view. Flac files have a 'header' set right at the beginning of the file (or at least it should be, not truly a valid flac if it isn't, but you do find them) which contains info about the whole file, bitrate, sample rate, etc. MP3s, though, are made up of hundreds, even thousands, of 'frames'. Quotestonesman87 Hey everybody, thanks for the suggestions. It turns out that a little word in the mention from JimmyShelter did the trick - the word "convert". All the tracks I'm working with in this small project are already 320 kbps, but I "re-converted" them. The file sizes are all slightly smaller, whatever the significance of that is, but they all play normally,

Are you using a particular set of MP3s or does it still occur with any MP3s? Variable bit-rate MP3s can cause problems sometimes, software often reports the wrong duration for example. Not all software writes valid MP3 headers, which can cause problems. But most software MP3 players work around these problems quite effectively, older CD/DVD players might not be quite so smart. I would try t
