Quotecooheid lots of pics through the years here.... Fine photos! The stones policy towards photographers obviously changed in the beginning of the 70's, but I hope the book will contain a fair amount of photos from the seventies too. Several great photobooks with material from the 60's have been published the last decade. Bent Rej, Gared Mankowitz, Bob Bonis Archive etc. Whic

QuoteDoxa QuoteSweetThing QuoteDandelionPowderman With Keith's drugbusts etc. he got the extra attention during the 70s, and when he kicked hard drugs, he became a favorite by the press, something that heightened his status to the public, imo. But back to the Glimmers, once really established, on the non-visual side, part of that "cool" image rested Keith not opening up his mouth

Quotestupidguy2 QuoteEleanor Rigby i'm kind of surprised people who love Exile and the country-styled tunes from that masterpiece, dont like Gram's work - especially with the Burritos. Check out Hot Burrito...excellent album. The guy definately had talent and i think Chris Hillman pointed out that he wanted to be like Mick Jagger. I tried listening to those records. I was a Stones f

QuoteDoxa QuoteNaturalust I think it's a great example of how Keith and Mick write, with Keith providing this level of writing, at best, and Mick finishing the job. And I hate to say it but 95% of the work is usually in the last 5% of the job. Get it Done, man. Exactly. The song has pretty much the same vibe as many Keith's Winos stuff. What Keith is interested is the sound, th

QuoteDoxa I can't stop watching that "Commit A Crime"... it is a long time since I've heard that kind of old riff rock blues sounding so good. Jagger and Beck are perfect partners in crime. The edge in Jag's voice, the meanness in Jeff's guitar. I think no any British singer or guitar player of that generation could suited better there than those two. Both of them as

Mick Jagger read some verses from Shelleys poem Adonais in Hyde Park 1969 in memory of Brian Jones, who had drowned few days earlier. Beat poetry and romantic poetry have been influences to the Jagger/Richards’ lyrics since they wrote their first song. But the table has also been turning. Stones-lyrics have influenced poets too. Partly or more thoroughly. I think it could be of interest to map th

Bulgakov's novel The Master and Margerita inspired (on Mariannes suggestion) Jagger to write the lyrics to Sympathy For The Devil. But The Rolling Stones have inspired prose and novels too. Let's make a map! U.S.: Zachery Lazar: Sway (2008)

I consider Between the Buttons an album influenced by Kinks. "Something happened to me yesterday" could be taken as an example. As a Kinks album it is marvellous, as a Stones album mediocre.

QuoteDoxa Quote24FPS I remember Keith complimenting Mick on the '81 tour I think it was. He said something to the effect that Mick was actually singing now instead of just barking out the lyrics. I can't hear this mannered nasality, but I do hear a master. " People have different opinions how great Jagger's singing in 1981/82 tour was, but whatever it was it was not "

The White Album can easily be reduced to a single album, but not Exile. The suggestions above show it. The sketch-like magical tracks like Shake Your Hips and Just Want to See Your Face are gone - I think the result would be that Exile wouldn't have been seen as one of the big four. The greatness og Exile is primarily the overwhelming totallity, and not the singular tracks. BB, LIB and SF ar

Quotestonesdan60 I've come to accept the fact that there are many who think the Stones haven't made a great album since Exile On Main Street, or Some Girls, etc. but also know there are some of us who don't see it that way. I just came across a great review of A Bigger Bang, which I couldn't agree with more. For the hell of it, here it is: Eight years separate 2005
