As CREEM Magazine put it, when mentioning Rory Gallagher, the nod went to the better dressed Ron Wood.

Mick might need more rest during the show. He might need two breaks, but probably best to limit Keef to just one spot and let Ronnie do the other.

QuoteStoneage My simple guess is that he is repressed by Keith. I don't think Keith allows anybody to outshine him. After all it's his band as so many points out. Maybe this repression has led to Ron's problems with drugs and his somewhat demeaning clowning about on stage? Just speculating... Yeah, I suspect Keith wore him down. Ronnie had his own style when he started playing wi

Quote71Tele QuoteMax'sKansasCity QuoteStoneage I understand what you are saying, MKC. However Ron Wood is a well known public figure - whether he is a politician or entertainer doesn't matter. There are pros and cons with being a celebrity. Having your alcohol habits discussed on public forums can be refered to the latter category. Has it been painful for you to watch it too? I myse

QuoteDiamondDog7 QuoteScooby Thanks to everyone who has posted such wonderful pictures. At the height of his powers Brian was a musical genius who seemed able to play any instrument to a very high standard. His musicianship gave the Stones a cutting-edge virtuosity that they have not reached since. Well said, Scooby! He wasn't a master of the guitar, but he did add some good sounds t

QuoteGazza Theres more likelihood of a band with three songwriters being capable of making a good record out of recently composed songs. I get your point Gazza, but sifting the very best of *several decades* of outtakes by the "world's greatest" rock and roll band vs. whatever filler they might come up with between a couple of good new songs over the course of a couple of months

Quotecrumbling_mice Great clip...thank you posting, haven't seen this before. Keith is just ultra cool, so many tried to copy but fell short in so many ways. I'm guessing this was around Ned Kelly era? No, this had to be around 1979. I think Mick shaved the beard off just before doing promotion for Emotional Rescue. You can see in the interview, Jagger references The Police I believ

This is a nice find; I hadn't seen it before. I wonder if we'll ever see just Jagger and Richards sharing an interview ever again, just the two of them, apart from with the rest of the band perhaps at formal press conference to announce a farewell tour or similar. I'm thinking probably not.

QuoteDoxa Quoteduke richardson AK did set them up a great contract...was that the price? as Keith allowed, he views it as an education, and doesn't really care.. Well, Keith is the one that was humilated - 'educated' - most, namely at least according to Philip Norman's book, and in fact Barbara Charone's too, Keith was the most into the contract, and he persuaded th

Quote71Tele Sure, why not? Put Pete Rose in too. Nah, he already made it into the WWE Hall of Fame. I'd really like to see Heart make it in though - to the RR HOF that is. As a non-purist, I'd rather see Donna Summer make it in rather than, or at least prior to, more rappers etc...

I actually enjoy watching the "Lucky in Love" video. very comical... It's got to be hard to go out and compete with yourself after so many years. Jagger can't very well go out tour after tour and entirely repeat himself when he has aged his stamina and voice have changed, and the band has changed, fashion has changed, the audience expectation has changed, technology and wha

As indicated by Max's, it has been suggested the Stones were quite drunk (and whatever else) by the time of the actual performance. The first "Saturday Night Live" book might have gone into this in a bit of detail, I don't recall exactly where I read about it. Jagger's voice was shot on and off for 1978 as well, and certainly it was for the show. That said, it was

QuoteGravityBoy QuoteSweetThingwhatever perceived strengths and faults he had over the years, no one could ever say Jagger was ever too thin skinned. Actually I think the opposite is true - well for certain things. I think I remember in NME when Black n Blue was released, Charles Shar Murray gave it a less than enthusiastic review. When Jagger saw him shortly afterwards at some party or othe

I mean, did critics and music reviews always make it a point to talk about Mick's dancing at shows ad nauseam back in the early days? Was that always the focus? Quotethewatchman If you think there isn't a battle for the title (albeit mythical) of greatest rock 'n roll band of all time then you are living in some idealistic dreamland. If you think there is no competition between fans of the Beatles and Stones for that title then you probably believe that males will stop warring against one another and there will be peace on earth someday.
