Yes, it's Mick Taylor's, which Jimi Hendrix played backstage at MSG (upside down, strung for right-handed playing...). SGs with a horseshoe vibrato are comparatively rare, although there are a few of them about.

Which version of Layla do you mean? Bobby Whitlock plays on the original Derek and the Dominos version and is credited as songwriter together with EC.

Definitely Sway (outro solo). Should have gone on for a minute or two longer though.

Looks somewhat like an early '80s Heritage reissue, with the wood grain running parallel to the neck as opposed to the edge of the body. However, the wood looks more like mahogany than korina, although that might be the lighting. I didn't know the Heritage reissues went as far as an F-series though; the single letter and three digit serial number is otherwise a unique feature of those r

QuoteNikkei Hey Negrita is not reggae. Never crossed my mind either, until I heard Ronnie playing the rhythm guitar to it on his radio show with Slash. That has a distinctly reggae flavour; the only one that really works for the Stones IMHO.

I stumbled across some new details as to the provenance of Keith’s first ’59 Burst (online update to the Stones Gear Book – see http://www.gregstackhouseprevost.com/stones-gear.html, at the bottom of the page). The photo shows the ‘60s UK band The Outlaws, with rhythm guitarist Ken Lundgren holding a sunburst Les Paul; the lead guitarist BTW is Ritchie Blackmore. Lundgren sold/traded the Burst

I'd be interested to know how we - or some people - know that e.g. Micawber is a '53 as opposed to '54 Tele. Blackguard Teles were made until mid-54, and serial numbers, which were still on the bridgeplate, overlapped a lot in the period from 1950 to 1954 (even more so than in later periods). Body and neck dates as well as pot codes (unless replaced) would need to have been verifie

QuoteDandelionPowderman This is a gig where Mick Taylor should have been invited. He's one of the few out there with a tone that's reminiscent to Green's, imo. Another connection is that he was Peter Green's successor at John Mayall's Bluesbreakers.

Quotegoinhome I think the guitar driven live versions of Sympathy for the Devil from the '69/'70 and '75 tours are far superior to the post 1989 drum loop track / piano thing they do now. I wonder what SFTD would have sounded like live in '72 with Nicky Hopkins.

Brexit is one factor amongst a number of others (summarised e.g. in Nate’s post above; also £1.7bn of debt didn’t help). The Brexit-related devaluation/volatility of Sterling is likely to have accelerated Thomas Cook’s demise though, but who knows whether this wouldn’t have happened at a later stage anyway. From an economic perspective, IMHO Brexit is a massive gamble which may or may not pay

QuoteKoen Funny, the question is about ‘bands of today’ and most answers are about bands that have been around for decades. Are there no new bands that sound similar to the Stones and Faces and the members are younger than, say, 30 years old? Don't call us when the new age gets old enough to drink Beck: Lord Only Knows Produced by the Dust Brothers.

QuoteGreen Lady This is why, apparently. It's a US thing at the moment, but I expect it will spread so we had better all remove it from the vocabulary we use to describe interesting foreign locations. I'd have thought it was only offensive when applied to people. The article does include the following clarification: "The word “exotic” is correct when referencing inani

Presumably Satisfaction would be #1 reflecting all the '62-'67 shows (about 230 odd dates as of June '65, with 2 shows being played on many occasions, some of which are however included in the Setlist FM statistics).
