This show could have my fav ever live performance of Beast of Burden. Great work from Woody and Mick's delivery throughout the song is fantastic. And the more I listen to this performance (and this tour in general) the more I love Ernie Watts' sax playing. Some really beautiful melodies that are reminiscent of Mick Taylor, in terms of melodic fluidness. Also, this show really makes me y

I don't know if this is just me, but I find every Stones studio album since Steel Wheels to be just really uninspired, both lyrically and musically. A Bigger Bang is no exception. Voodoo Lounge, in my opinion, is the best out of the Steel Wheels, Voodoo Lounge, Bridges To Babylon, and A Bigger Bang foursome. The album is waayy too long (as is A Bigger Bang), and there are just too many c

I think Undercover gets praised quite enough. It's a great album, don't get me wrong, but I wouldn't call it "underrated". I think most underrated goes to Black and Blue. Only weak song on that album in my opinion is Cherry Oh Baby.

Let me start by saying what a fantastic thread this is. Every Stones fan can relate. So many of these moments for me, but let me start with these: -- When The Whip Comes Down, Hampton '81, first 20 seconds. Particularly the moment Charlie and Bill join in. Everything just sounds so tight and in sync. I find it awesome. -- 5:50-6:00 on Sympathy For The Devil on Love You Live. When Ro

Keith's definitely improving as the tour's progressing. Cool to see him bust out that up-and-down lick occasionally.

Sudio-wise, Hold On To Your Hat features a pretty crazy solo by Keith's standards. Very fast, and bordering on heavy metal. Abnormal for Keith, and very cool to see. His solos during '89/'90 were among the best of his career,IMO. His playing seemed reinvigorated, most likely due to the fact that the Stones hadn't toured in 7 years. He was playing with an overall speed at w

QuoteFanOfGRARBITW QuoteRichard from Canada I'm thinking the 1972-73 tour was perhaps the last great one they would do. I say this, not because the later ones were any less in scope, in fact they were often much larger and covered more ground. However I'm thinking that the mystique of the Stones was at its peak around 1972 when there was a deluge of publicity, hype, and craziness by the

I love every version of this song. The album version, the extended version, and especially the 9 minute version in which they were obviously just getting a feel for the song and basically jamming. That version has some REALLY sick back-and-forth playing between Ronnie and Keith. Weaving at it's finest. Concerning the extended version, I love the whole crescendo near the end where all we h

QuoteDeluxtone QuoteDandelionPowderman I don't think the Stones with Brian was a "tight" band. With Taylor they defined roles, like the other rock/classic rock acts that lead to a more common sound, imo. With Ronnie, they got more back to the Brian days (from 1978), but it is a mistake to judge that sound solely as "loose". IMO, there is nothing tighter than a group of

QuoteHonkeyTonkFlash I suppose I'll be in the minority here but I prefer live versions of any Stones song. Don't get me wrong, the studio versions are great, but even if they are technically greater than the live versions, there's something about live Stones that just knocks me out; that energy, the roar of the crowd - it all reminds me of what a gas actually being at a Stones conc

Ronnie's best years on general with the Stones were from '75-'82. All his most memorable solos were during that span IMO, and "the ancient art of weaving" was in full force. Since '89, it seems that Ronnie has taken a much more backseat role to Keith, which doesn't make much sense to me considering that Keith has been in technical decline since then.

If LSTNT or Still Life feels too cold or too polished, keep in mind that they were both heavily edited and overdubbed. If you listen to the Leeds '82 bootleg with no editing, you get a bit more of that classic Stones sloppiness. Same goes for Hampton '81.

It's been said on this forum before, but I feel as though it was the last time they went into the studio not trying to "recreate Exile". The last time a Stones studio album, for me at least, didn't feel like a Mick album and a Keith album mashed into one.

Doesn't hold a candle to anything they did between '68-'72 and '78-'81, but miles better than anything they've released since.

One of my favorite Keith solos for sure. Been trying to nail it on guitar note-for-note for a while. In terms of solos, Keith always prefers quality over speed, but here he combined the two, and the outcome was absolutely sick. Most of you won't know what I'm talking about, but the lick Keith does from 42:04-42:06, and then again from 42:54-42:56 was performed in some variation on many
