QuoteTravelinMan There are some pretty hot versions in 1970 and ‘71 as well. I admit I'm not nearly as familiar with 1970 and 1971 as I am with the other tours. But I do like the version from Leeds 1971. A nice laid-back country porch feel. There are some good versions from the 1973 Pacific tour as well.

My all-time favorite Stones song, and the one live war-horse I can't go without. It's literally the same thing to the Rolling Stones that the Force is to Star Wars: it's like a damn energy field that surrounds the band's entire catalouge and binds together "Satisfaction," "Get Off Of My Cloud," "The Last Time, "Under My Thumb," "Pain

QuoteLeonidP I almost agree. I prefer 1972 over 1978, but yes, 1978 also tops Ya Yas ... and don't get me wrong, I also love Ya Yas version! It's just a great song, studio included, and it was probably their best ever choice of a cover! Thanks LeonidP! I agree: for a band that has a PLETHORA of great covers, LIV is one their greatest achievements (since they made it their own arraig

I know the version of LIV on Ya Yas is the one that everyone knows and loves, but to my ears the Stones simply played this song better in 1972 and 1978. Whether it was Mick Taylor’s more adventurous leads and Bobby Keyes and Jim Price’s killer Stax-style horns in the former, or Ronnie’s down home steel guitar and Stu’s country piano and Mac’s gospel organ (not to mention Keith’s gloriously ragged

I just saw. Man, talk about a loss. ZZ Top was one of the few bands who were right up there with the Stones and The Doors for me: I wasn't a fan, I was a die-hard superfan. Researched as much as I could about these guys; "Tush" was one of the first songs I learned on the guitar. Just listen to how he weaved musically with Billy and Frank: those three men sounded HUGE together.

QuoteDGA35 QuoteTopi Montreal? Where would they play in Montreal in November? Sadly, Canada has probably seen its laat Stones show. Montreal in November - Olympic Stadium has a roof. Rogers Centre in Toronto formerly Skydome. They'll have to decide soon: Rogers Centre (SkyDome) is planned for demolition.

The actual performances in SAL are great. Some moments sag, but overall we get great versions of YGTS, ADTL, PIB, Shattered, JJF, Champaign and Reefer, She Was Hot, LT&A, and Dice. As a film, it is by far the worst offering by Scorsese and the Stones. Along the reasons everyone has already cited, here are my problems with is: 1.) It lacks the excitement and tension of Gimme Shelter. Whi

Thanks for all the responses everyone. Really appreciated it. In the end, it looks like two factors ended any plans for the Stones to come back to the U.S. and Canada in 1976: (1) Keith's Aylesbury arrest for DUI and possession of coke and LSD following the Stafford UK gig, which would have caused problems with getting a Keith a visa to come into the U.S. And then, far more likely, there

QuoteTaylor1 In1975,the tour of South America I believe was cancelled because Wood had committed to a tour with Rod Stewart and the Faces .It began on August 1 so there was no time for Wood to tour with the Stones.Had he only been a temporary guitarist by the end of the US 1975 tour, they could have toured South America with another guitarist like Wayne Perkins or even Mick Taylor. But by that ti

Quotelonglongwinter I think the book "On the road with the Rolling Stones" by Chet Flippo talked about it Indeed, Longlongwinter: here it is on pp 10, 11, 18-19, and 39 in Flippo's On The Road with the Rolling Stones. Apparently, with all the visa problems the Stones were having at the time to get into the U.S. (Altamont, drugs, riots and violence in general at their concerts, al

Fordyce had nothing to do with the South American dates: the Stones announced on July 2nd that the South American leg of the tour would be cancelled due to several reasons (including security and currency problems). Keith and Ron's Fordyce adventure happened on July 5th: four days later.

Quoteroryg I remember stopping at Ticketron (blast from the past) to get tix for a show and spotted there was a Stones show listed for Chicago's Comiskey Park. When I asked about it, however, was told tix were not on sale yet (or ever as it turned out). Noted. Thanks!

Anyone else ever heard of this? It looks like the Stones were planning to return to North America right after the 1976 European tour got finished. What surprised me was that some dates had been penciled in. Planned venues: Three Rivers Stadium, Pittsburgh Olympic Stadium or The Forum, Montreal various stadiums and arenas in: -New York -Philadelphia -Oakland -Los Angeles -Atla

I was two years old when I heard Eddie's solo on "Beat It," when Thriller came out. Can remember it like it was yesterday. I turned to the record player and said, "what was THAT?!?!" He's the reason I picked up a guitar in the first place. Absolutely shocked and devastated over this. RIP Eddie.

So, there we have it: Soldier Field wasn't available due to the Bears' schedule, Wrigley Field wasn't allowed to be used for concerts until recently, and it appears that the White Sox didn't allow Comiskey Park to be used for concerts after Michael Jackson/The Jackson 5 played there in 1984 (and for my fellow completists: the first band the White Sox allowed to perform at thei

QuoteRisingStone Quoterbk QuoteKennedy I've never seen good photos from the Alpine Valley shows. Were they able to get the whole Steel Wheels stage set up there? No, they used parts of it but the actual stage was much too tall and wide. They had runways going to each side and then forward. Mick used the stage left riser, for example, rather than top of the tower for Sympathy. The stage wa

QuoteGasLightStreet Quoterbk "Did they have a runway forward like Licks Tour or 2012-2019? I don’t remember they did." No, just the left and right. The ramps went all the way to the sides and turned out toward the audience about thirty feet. They used pieces and parts of the big set up on the main stage. It was crowded. Again, in '89 we had no point of reference. The tour had
