Saw them in concert at the Forum, August 15, 1969. I just graduated High School. I think they played 6 songs, but they played the crap out of them. That and a drum solo. There is a rock concert in a Muppets movie and the drummer starts a solo and you see the hands on a clock going around and around. I laughed and thought of this BF concert.

Stolen from a van in 1972, it turned up in someone's attic. Huh! Have the guitars from Villa Nellcote ever turned up?

Quotetreaclefingers Quoteroryg Nat King Cole at The Palmer House Pump Room in 1958 That is incredibly cool and if there was a prize, I think you may just have won! I digress, but cannot resist: The late and legendary LA Dodger broadcaster Vin Scully told this story about NKC: Nat was a big Dodger fan and when the Dodgers played the Chicago White Sox in game 1 of the 1959 World Series Nat sang

I had to think about this: The Doors at Darby Park in the Morningside area of Inglewood, California, early 1967 (not far from where The Forum was being built). The self titled first album was released. It was before I had a driver's license, so I walked to the venue (maybe rode my bike). I was aware of and wanted to hear LMF. The band set up in the gym, played 30 minutes then broke it down t

This has no doubt been covered here, but Axios TV has aired a series of Spin magazine's 100 greatest RnR stars. #1 is, as many here know, Keith. But if you check Spin's website about the list and the comments on each artist you will find something interesting mentioned about Keith, i.e., "the wail of Winter." As many of you know, Keith does not play on Winter and that wail is

QuoteTheflyingDutchman Crank up the volume. Taylor is playing great here. The other guitarist too. The other guitarist is Blondie Chaplin; Joel Diamond (kb); Wilbur Bascomb (b); and Eric Parker (d). This band is a particular favorite of mine of MT's various line-ups.

Was the band ever any sexier, musically and otherwise? Wish the camera was on Keith more. I never get enough footage of him playing in '69. He was the star of the show I saw (The Forum, 2nd).

I went to Oakland hoping MJ would join opening act Van (or vice versa) for "Gloria," but it did not happen. I think that would be a great song for the band to cover.

It's been a few years, but if my memory serves...Bill Graham did not want the performance filmed or recorded in anticipation of a live album of the tour. The recorder had limited permission to film and at times had to lower the camera as if to comply with Graham's wishes. Still, a very interesting video when EC, Van and a thoroughly delighted Chrissie Hynde appear. She looks like the ha

I understand the appeal of SG. It is an imminently accessible record. And after the previous band releases anything that had some focus was welcome. But it is a record without secrets. You "get it" right away and when you tire of it you are done with it. It's musical fluff. It gave rise to two concert lowpoints for me: Miss You and Imagination. The latter song is as musicall

This is a favorite "B-side" story: George needed a B-side song for a single from his Cloud 9 album. He asked Jeff Lynne for some help. Orbinson got involved. Bob had a garage to record in, but George's guitar was at Petty's house, so he ended up coming along. Ironically, the song "Handle Me With Care" was deemed too good for B-side and a new band was created. The ima

Just a comment concerning Winter: I keep sampling Ole Ole Ole when it comes on. I have never sat down and watched it all the way through. But last week I had it on and something caught my ear and eye: A slow motion sequence of the band playing in the rain (I think in Brazil), but it was Taylor playing the gorgeous notes of Winter that perfectly matched the beautiful rain splashed images. ...this concert film...is a continuous rock experience that keeps building, becoming ever more intense and euphoric. In its own terms, the movie is close to perfection. The lead singer, David Byrne, is a stupefying performer who gives the group its modernism - the undertone of repressed hysteria, which he somehow blends with freshness and adventurousness and a driving beat. He designed the stage

Nice. My wife and I have spoken with Carla a number of times and we corresponded for a time. We met her at a Mick Taylor show at the Troubadour. Some of her MT stories are priceless. Best wishes to her. We hope she is well and are glad she continues to make fine music.

I cannot think of the Brussels show (1st) without fawning over the band's performance of TD. During the L&G movie Keith clearly shuts down Taylor's "noodling" (I hate that term) during that song. Keep it simple he seems to be directing. But a year or so later Taylor got his playing in and the result was brilliant. Focus on Taylor's playing on that song. It is one of t

I have mentioned before: Below Deck Mediterranean, Season 4 is set in the south of France. The yacht anchors a number of times in Villefranche-sur-Mer (Episode 4 and others). With careful use of the remote you can locate Villa Nellcote but a view of the mansion is obscured by trees. Nonetheless you get a nice view of the area in recent times. And, yes, the book is fascinating. The research is ex

I cannot recall what show this was from. In the '60's BB appeared for his first show at the Fillmore west. The bus arrived, but everyone thought they were at the wrong place because outside were lined up a bunch of young long haired white kids. They drove around until they realized that they were at the place. He said Bill Graham gave him the shortest introduction he ever had: "La

The band was evolving right before your ears and eyes on this tour and this SFTD performance was a leap forward. Hence the comment. A follow up to the above: You Tube has the excellent Reelin

Eagles is a band I heard enough of on the radio and never bought. I understand the perceived pros and cons of the band...However...The 2004 Farewell I film from Melbourne is one of the finest RnR films I have ever seen. It is wonderfully shot. The camera is where it should be. The band looks and sounds great. The guitars are enormously effective. Highly recommended. The decision to wrap it up is

During the Taylor years videos on the right You Tube scroll are videos by Show R playing the Taylor and Richards parts to a number of songs. Watch, listen and weep. To this day Taylor's playing in some measure or another is under appreciated and possibly overlooked. Some people on this board have actually called him boring, favoring other stage antics. But when you see and hear so clearly w

Does anyone watch this show? My wife gets wrapped up with the politics of the crew. I like the young bodies in beautiful locales. Season 4 is set in the south of France. In Episode 4 the yacht anchors in the bay Villafranche-sur-Mer. Try as I might and after many pauses I could not see Villa Nellcote although I know it was right there. To get my bearings I pulled up the area on Google maps.

Whenever this question comes up the first thing that comes to my mind is: Jimmy Cliff at the Roxy in West Hollywood. In the '80's sometime. The sound was superb. Each song started with that infectious reggae rhythm. By the time all the musicians engaged it sounded like a symphony. Just look at an instrument and you could hear it. Cliff's voice is beautiful. Ronnie and Jo were sitt

Digging through old stuff I stumbled upon three long forgotten color slides of the Stones performing during this concert. Not bad shots. You can see everyone including the horn players. Looks like Stu on piano. Jagger is moving and might be a bit blurry. I also have a negative strip that appears to be three shots of Santana. I do not remember having my camera at this show, but such is my me
