Here’s the show for this week. The show carries over the theme from last week, so Bob’s playing tunes about the railroad again. This week he’s got Curtis Mayfield on a track. Mayfield wrote and performed on one of the coolest soundtracks from the Blaxploitation era in movies, “Superfly”. The movie’s title cut and the song “Freddie’s Dead” are great tunes. Bob’s also got a little of Captain Beefheart and Louis Armstrong, along with the O”Jays encouraging us all to get on board the “Love Train”. Would love to hear Bob do a show on ships (Hmmm, did he? I don’t remember all of the themes.) and feature the O’Jays doing “Ship Ahoy”, the title cut from the album of the same, seguing into “Wooden Ships” by the Jefferson Airplane which I’d then segue into “Jack Tarr the Sailor” by the Byrds and follow immediately with Jerry Garcia’s version of the same song. But, this is my playlist, not Bob’s. Regarding the O’Jays, “Ship Ahoy” is probably one of the best albums they ever did and well worth seeking out. It’s the album that also features the ‘Jays songs “Money” and “Now That We’ve Found Love”. As always, enjoy.
