Thanks

Hi Luke33,

I think the price of any bootleg would be different in any country, where are you from? Maybe a bootleg cost 15 to 30 Euros, not all the records label are the same!

The prices are very different, it depends - in the same country too - on where you're buying it. It depends also on he trademark : DaC is expensive, for example. Sometimes, it's better to have a "regular" dealer or to know a small, hidden shop in a big town, or to go to fares ... Most of the time, you can get boots on the net, for free (thanks to the seeders !) And sometimes, when you know reliable people, you can trade. So, the scale is huge !

Nothing. All bootlegs should be free.

Nothing. Get somebody to burn it for you and download (or not) the artwork.

With all these torrents going on, my advice is to download them for free.
But since you ask...common prices for
Swinging Pig 20-30 euro,
OBR 60-120 euro,
Scorpio 30-100 euro
Trouble with all those record-labels is that 90% of the recordings are available in better quality elsewhere (TSP Paris 76, NY 72, Philly 72, Hampton 81, Passaic 78, OBR Paris Results, Toronto 75, Sydney 73 etc etc etc)

I'll say it again.
Don't pay for bootlegs.

Are you joking? Is very nice get bootlegs for free but if nobody pay it for a strange record woulb impossible to get soundboard recordings and all of us have ONLY REALLY BAD AUDIENCE RECORDINDS, Don't you think?

Thank you very much to the record labels and dealers to provide us (for some of our money) greatest times of very good music in (sometimes) excellent soundboard recording!!

I downloaded alot of bootlegs but when i have chance i try to buy my SILVER's CD's is something really nice! Do you feeling??

I've got my share of bought vinyl & cd's.
I have my theory on that too - IF there's something for sale, buy only after you've heard it or seen it yourself.

Understand too, that everything I bought - I bought before the days of the internet!

Guys,

This dude is collecting original releases....We are not talking about torrents and mp3 recordings or trades. He is talking about original releases ! So give him some infos if you can. We don't need to hear about all your free stuff....I love when some people are acting like dictators...I am collecting original releases and I don't give a shit about your "don't pay anything" !

some bootlegs are very nice.

in the old days of the vinyl years some of them were really fantastic as collectors items. others were just shit.

you can download everything you want, but you have to understand one thing.

a bootleg cd is a pressed CD.

a burned CD-R is not a bootleg. it's a copy of a bootleg cd or a copy of a recording dubbed on CD-R. you don't own the bootleg, you own a copy. it's perfect as long as you are not interested in collecting.

add the fact that a pressed cd have a far longer life that CD-R, especially against scratches.

last thing, even "false" bootlegs exists : as exemple, sister morphine are CD-R, not pressed, so it's not bootlegs, they are NOT COLLECTABLE as a record.

if you are only interested in the music, download flac files and burn CD-R. avoid MP3 if you can.

even if one day your CD-R is cratchy, you will replace it easily.

Pay, what you think it's worth to you. If you think the price is fair and you can afford then the choice is yours

Haristone, I'm not a Sister Morphine fanatic but I don't agree with you. SM is also collectable, they have nice printed discs as well as Pignose Records. Both are collectable, especially when they bring unreleased material. By the way, MAM gold CDRs are as good as pressed CD. They are also more expensive.

If you want to collect siver cds good on yer, downloads are ok as a sample or if nothing else available after all we have freedom of choice whether to buy or not.
I have bought a few boots lately and they average out at about 12 pounds sterling,
Good hunting

I think there are still some people who believe that torrents is MP3s.
Torrents are loss-less quality, in other words just like a CD copy.
I see that some posters use the term "CD-quality/MP3" when they post MP3s, which is an absurd thing to say, becasue MP3 is not CDquality in any way.
I've bought bootlegs since the early 90s, but I've lost my interest in it recently, because of the fantastic torrent-sites out there.
And one more thing...even though it's nice to have pressed CDs, it's a bit of a disgrace that bootlegers steal recordings from collector's circles, and earn money, while the guy who recorded it gets nothing.
Then again...sometimes bootleg-labels dig up their own material, like Crystal Cat Records....or they get recordings from the original taper, and pay him for his works. There's 2 sides of this business.

As you said Erik, there are 2 sides, but some recordings came first from a label (like the Voodoo Sessions on the Vigotone, BTB rehearsals from Sister Morphine or the last complete Boston show from Pignosee Records) before being distributed on the Torrents. Depends on the label policy. Some are paying the tapers, some just steal it.

Yes, that's one of the 2 sides. Crystal Cat was just an example, and they are mostly into SPringsteen and Dylan...yet they record the shows themselves.
And some people don't wish to spread their gems, like the Voodoo Lounge outtakes material...but change their minds when they are offered a good payment.

So how do you know that you are getting a pressed CD and not a CD-R that looks like a pressed CD?

You buy from people you trust, and avoid ebay.
And...after you have recieved it, you can look at the back of the CD for those small numbers written next to the spine.

OK- so we have the usual 'everything should be free' argument here & all the COMPLETE SHIT about lossless versus mp3. OK- you'll notice a difference between these formats if you're listening to Stravinski's blah blah blah symphony from a good source- but from a 30 year old recording made with a small mic stuffed in someones coat?- get real!.
If you want factory-pressed cds, at least you know they won't (usually) deteriorate & become unlistenable after a few years.

There are 100s of Stones bootlegs that are million miles away from "being made with a small mic stuffed in someones coat"
I thought you knew that.

Torrent is a way to share files over internet. It has nothing to do with "lossy"or "lossless". You can share whatever kind of files with it, not only music. And I guess most of the music which are shared with torrents are mp3 files. And maybe movies.

Sorry about the OT post.

Of course, you're absolutely right. Sorry for the 'outburst'- it's just this 'audio snobbery' that really annoys me. I've also had cdrs that have deteriorated to the point where they are unplayable after only approx 5 years. I look after ALL my cds & cdrs & they were known-brand cdrs. So, I find all this banging-on about download formats about as useful as a chocolate teapot!
A few years down the line, some of the people who have left their computers on over-night in an effort to add cdr boots to their collections, may well find that they actually have NOTHING.
So- that's my main reason for only collecting factory-pressed boots. Of course, in general they fall into 2 catagories: European (similar price to a high-street store) & Japanese (EXPENSIVE!).

My god ! I think I opened up a pandoras box !

Thanks to the guys/gals who answered what i thought was a simple question.

Incidently, I miss those Record Fairs where you could buy silver pressed Bootleg CDs....

It depends on the quality of it. We have these CD markets one time each year in my town. Next is Februrary 10th. An original silver pressed live bootleg (2CD)by the Stones is about 33$. Just be careful when you buy it.

The thing about MP3/Flac is that people seem to have so VERY strong feelings about it, it's like we're talking about life and death.
I think MP3s is a very good invention, and people like vox12string, Vancouver, Urban Steel (and others) are doing a fantastic job, sharing music.
I do not care for MP3s myself...my ears are very sensitive.
But the whole point about music is to feel good, if you prefer vinyl, CD or MP3 is just personal taste.
When it comes to the "rot away"-part of CDRs...yes that's a shame, but that why one have to burn it over to new CDRs every 5th year or so.
If I was a millionaire, I would get LPs and CDs instead of CDRs....and eat caviar instead of apples.

Yes- I completely agree with you. To 'each his own' as they say. Unfortunately, I'm not a millionaire- in fact I'm disabled, so my income is very low. If I buy boot cds, it's a matter of living on cornflakes, not caviar! LOL

I couldn't agree more with the previous posts, DO NOT BUY BOOTLEGS!! Most traders will give it to you if you have nothing to trade. In a year or two you'll have your own list started and trading will be fun and most importantly, FREE. I started with very little in '86 and never had to pay. (I did buy Vinyl Beatle Boots in the '70's, mostly because of the cool covers and I collect Beatle stuff) Dimeadozen.org would be a good place to start.
