...very great to have a different 'extented' Miss You...!

One thing...maybe a stupid question...but why is it called 8-track and still have 10 tracks on it...?
I know these things were designed for players that were built into cars...aka cartridges right...?

I have at least 7 different versions of the 8 track, and all play the alternate versions. None have the celebrity faces on it, and I can only think that it was easier to do the cover without the original faces, as that LP was die cut, and the celebrities were on the inner, NOT the cover. Hence, what you see here. It took me ages to get that UK version, with the slip cover, as the US version, came in a standard "open" cartridge case, witht the artwork ONLY pasted to the tape. Never seen a US slip cover with art.

JR - from 8trackheaven.com
--------------------------
3. C. WERE 8-TRACKS POPULAR INTERNATIONALLY, OR ONLY IN AMERICA?

It's true that 8 tracks were only ever popular in North
America, i.e., that it's the only place people ever really
liked them.
However, they were made in many other countries. There are tons of UK carts,
especially on the
Island and EMI labels, and these tend to be of higher
quality than US carts. Beatles and Pink Floyd carts,
especially, sound a lot better than the US releases.

So I finally will look for a player on ebay.co.uk - thanks again !

btw - I'm already playing the "Some Girls"-cassette and no surprise - it's the usual stuff

Thanks for this post. These songs work fine and are great to hear.

But for some reason, when these songs show up, the running time listed is shorter than what the song length actually is. The running time functions like normal and counts normally on the current song display menu, but incorrect running times are listed on the playlist menu.

Shattered is the only song on Sucking In The '70s to appear in the same version
as it did on a prior album.Six of the ten tracks are edited, including Beast Of Burden, then you have the three tracks exclusive to that album (before Dance Pt.2 was included on Rarities anyway). This shorter Sucking In The '70s version of Beast Of Burden appears on Jump Back as well.
So,the long Beast Of Burden is unavailable elsewhere. The information in the first post on the four tracks is accurate.

Great quality, thanks. I transferred these from old 8Ts a few years back and played hell getting any semblance of dynamic range. "Miss You" is the real jem as there are different vocals, whoops and hollers and it fades on the harp. The other two are a tad more common as you can them off the blue label promos.

The 8 track versions of Shattered and Far Away Eyes you can find on promos but,I haven't heard of the 8 track version of Beast Of Burden being available this way, officially at least.

Thank you Silkcut1978,

Great quality.
However, it has been impossible to download BEAST OF BURDEN.
All I've got from YOUSENDIT for the last couple of hours is:

"System busy
We're sorry but the file you are trying to download is temporarily unavailable due to heavy usage of our system.

Please try downloading your file again after waiting a few minutes. We apologize for any inconvenience."

Would it be possible for you (or any of our friends) to post BEAST OF BURDEN on a different host?

Thank you for everything,
Mick Wilbury

I have the blue label promo of it. It has a LONG and SHORT version which correspond to the LP and 8T respectively. The label is blue on both sides as both are STEREO.

I understand the confusion. The 8 Track version is longer than the "long" version which is on the promo single and the LP/CD album.

And I can't - as far as I can remember the 8track-version is a different take to the version which was used for the LPs/CDs/45s. different vocals, partially different guitar-work so no matter how long (or short) it runs - it's different....but to be honest, I haven't listened to it for a while, I hope I'm not completely wrong;-)

Yup, that's the one I have. One version or the other corresponds to the 8T as I recall.

This is absolutely fantastic!!! The 8-Track Miss You and Beast is something a lot of us had never heard or haven't in a long time. Beast sounded particularly well considering the source. This post is right up there with the extended She Was Hot. Thank you Silk!!!
