OT: Dividing one music file into seperate tracks?

dmay posted a "Who" concert in another thread but it's too big to burn on one disc.

Is there a downloadable program that allows you to divide one big music file into seperate tracks?

There is an application called 'mp3tm15' which is free for limited usage (which works fine) - or you can buy it and get added extra functionality...
...can't remember where I got it from but once I read the Help section it was/is easy to use

There is a program called musiCutter, which can cut one file into separate songs, but you need to enter beginning and ending of each song, or you can use it with CueMaster, which can try to extract the ID3 data from the file, so you don't need to specify duration of each song... Sorry if I made it look confusing, the rainy weather is killing me

You can use edit software (Audacity for PC) (Sound Edit for Mac). You can see when the songs stop, or just listen through for cutting off between each track.

I convert the mp3 to wav, it's easier and faster to work with wav files.
To do that I use GoldWave.
That is the same program I use to split the files.
I mark and copy the first song and paste as new selection - save as track 01.
Then I mark song 2, copy and paste as new selection, save as track 02.

Then at the end, I convert all the files back to mp3, with GoldWave.
I takes long, but it's worth it.

some large mp3-files are album-wrap files. these are files which contain several mp3-files. they're made with album-wrap maker. you can split them with free album-wrap extractor. get it at: [infamus.com]

another free album-wrap maker and extractor is alba. get it at: [alba.sourceforge.net]

i used to find lots of mp3 album-wraps on winmx. unfortunately, that's down now.

these programs don't work with the who-file. maybe this information is otherwise helpful.

Hey conchita, shake it up now

A big thanks to you all, with all this info, I now know how to divide up a big music file into seperate tracks and I know how to change the bitrate on mp3's.

Thanks again everyone!

When I'm done converting and dividing I'll post some concerts up.
Right now I'm coverting and dividing the Derek and the Dominoes concert with Duane Allman at a higher bitrate.

I use a program called CDex 1.51 which is free from download.com. This is excellent for editing and converting wav to mp3 and mp3 to wav.

WinMX isn't down, you just need to download some patch for it and it will work, but the traffic isn't as good as it used to be.

Try Phex or Limewire. It's got much more music and movies.
And of course BitComet is fantastic when it comes to download DVD-files.

Beware of Limewire, there's lotsa viruses & trojans all over the place. Make sure you scan each file before opening it

Yeah, WinMX is also a favorite of mine, whenever I search for some song, I try with WinMX first, cause it's got probably the best interface and download speed. And it was the best place for downloading complete Stones bootlegs, let's hope it gets popular again

JS was that the 1969 Who live in Amsterdam boot you were talking about? I also downloaded that and have been editing it also. I haven't had much time though lately to finish it off but as per Tekumseh I converted it to wav then I've been using LPripper to edit the tracks. I haven't got very far due to the fact I haven't been able to use my pc much lately. If it is the 1969 boot you are talking about would you mind posting only the track start and end times? That would be so cool if you could do that. thanks, no dramas if you can't however.

Yeah, I used a combination of WAVEPAD (for chopping up the concert into separate tracks) and iTunes (for obtaining the start / stop times of each track) to burn 2 CDR's @ 128 KB/s bitrate. Takes a long time to complete but worth the effort.

As for posting anything lately, YouSendIt has been a royale pain in the ass.

I use Cool Edit Pro, when you cut the songs in pieces you also if neccesserily fade out the songs.
