Bootlegs

I know I'll get my arse kicked for this, but what exactly is a bootleg. I was under the impression that it was technically an illegal recording of a concert. Many thanks.

A bootleg is a CD or LP, made by people who have no copyright of the artists' music. Usually it is concerts, rehearsals or studio outtakes.
Copies of official records, made illegally, is not "bootlegs" but "pirate CDs".
So, if you download a show from the internet, and burn it on CD-R, it's not a bootleg. But if you copy it on several PRESSED CDs, and sell, you have a bootleg.
Of course, this could be explained more into details, but this is the main point.
