Question about source of Satisfaction live 1965
Posted by: wiredallnight ()

Does anyone know where this live version of Satisfaction comes from?

[we.tl]

IIRC it was first released on a 5 x 7" singles box (Mini Black Box).
It is not from Münster, it is different to the version on Charlie Is My Darling Crossfire Hurricane.

I think it is the same track as found on The Riot Show: Berlin 1965 (Magic Dwarf Records) which lists it as Hamburg on September 13. It’s also on DAC-173.

Note from TUG: origin uncertain - could be Hamburg 13-Sep; news broadcast was shown in “Drehscheibe”, German TV (ZDF), mid-Sep, and probably in Probably broadcast in “Teen Time” British radio show, mid-Oct, and “Beat-Club”, German TV show (Radio Bremen), 31-Oct.

Thanks, but it's not Hamburg, the complete Hamburg show is available as soundboard. It is different.

You’re right; it was an old note.

The sound mix, in particular Mick's vocals, imo clearly identify the WDR TV recordings from Münster as this version's origin. However, it's not the officially released version as you've already stated. But keep in mind that there were two shows in Münster on this very day (September 11, 1965) - afternoon at 5 o'clock and evening at 8:30, so obviously WDR recorded (at least parts of) both shows, possibly to be safe just in case something went wrong.

The version you posted was traded decades ago as "Satisfaction (live version, German TV 1965)" with no specific location mentioned. The Mini Black Box could very well be the first appearance on bootleg because I remember that I gave the guy who produced the set a copy of my tape (of course, without knowing that he was a bootlegger... Aaaah, those were the days!).

It later appeared in tape trading lists as "German TV, unknown location, possibly Hamburg 1965".

where could this be found ?

On DAC-150 or Red Tongue Records RTR-032 [iorr.org]
I find the RTR better (quality).
