POST: RON WOOD with JEFF BECK GROUP Series Vol 12 - 07 December1968 - SAN FRANCISCO
JEFF BECK GROUP
(1967 - 1969)
This series is dedicated to the first version of the Jeff Beck Group, the one that included Ron Wood in its line-up.
It is especially dedicated to the late Jeff Beck who passed away on January 10, 2023.
A big thank you to all the people who recorded these shows and who shared them and to my two accomplices nzb and Jaap (Stonesmuziekfan) who gave me the benefit of their versions of these shows and their advice and support ... and therefore without whom this project would not have been possible.
7th December 1968
- SAN FRANCISCO -
7th December 1968: THE JEFF BECK GROUP: San Francisco, California, Fillmore West
Line-up: RW (bass, bvoc)/Jeff Beck (gtr, bvoc)/Rod Stewart (voc)/Micky Waller (dr)/Nicky Hopkins (p)
01 - You Shook Me
02 - Let Me Love You
03 - The Sun Is Shining
04 - Rice Pudding
05 - Shapes Of Things
01 - Jeff’s Boogie
02 - Blues De Luxe
03 - I Ain’t Superstitious
04 - Wee Wee Baby
05 - Rock My Plimsoul
Recordings from this show appear on lots of bootlegs (I checked 16 here!) but all are coming from the same recording - sometimes lossy and quite often with speed problems.
I kept a version called ‘Clambake’ (Beckdoor Music – BDM 003/004) which had the best sound.
I declicked the recording, slightly amplified it and reworked the transition between the tracks. Also I re-focused the sound. This version had to be accelerated by +6%.
Note a short fade in/out after ‘The Sun Is Shining’ (at this point I also deleted noises coming from the tape recorder).
There’s a microphone problem from 0’27 to 0’30 in ‘Jeff’s Boogie’ and another one at 2’16 in ‘Rock My Plimsoul’ - they were in all versions so they were not deletable.
All the infos are taken from ‘Woodworks’ by Nico Zentgraf: the database devoted to Ronnie Wood's work with The Birds, Jeff Beck Group, Faces and many others before joining The Rolling Stones. [www.nzentgraf.de
