POST: Black And Blue and other 1975 sessions - Vol 06 (rehearsals part 4) (FP 116)
The BLACK AND BLUE sessions
Part V°] Rehearsals, recordings (and playbacks of already recorded tracks)
22nd January - 9th February: Rotterdam, Holland, De Doelen, Mobile Record Unit. Producers: The Glimmer Twins. Sound engineers: Keith Harwood, Glyn Johns.
Additional musicians: Billy Preston (p, org, string synthesizer, bvoc)/Jeff Beck (gtr)/ & maybe others.
Most of these recording were made by putting a microphone in the mailbox of the Stones recording truck. Some recordings were made secretly inside the truck. Others were made from the outside because it was to dangerous to put the mike in the mailslot. (precision gived by Virtual_Nobody nine years ago)
So this recordings are for warning collectors!
The ‘playbacks’ are leftovers from GHS- and IORR-previous sessions which The Rolling Stones seemed to listen to during these sessions.
The mainly first 3 parts from these recordings are coming from my copy of «1975 Rehearsals In Rotterdam» (MC 142). They are in bad quality (see before) and some tracks have digital noises (in particuliar tracks 10 & 11 of cd n°3)… this defaults seem to exist in all version I found.
BlueTurns2 Grey sent me a transfer from his tapes, interesting for the 4th part of these recordings in particuliar for the ‘Slave/vagina’ segments. His source is a set of 4 cassettes from 1984, simply called "Rotterdam Rehearsals Jan./Feb. 1975 Part I - IV": I call them ‘BT2G’ in my compilation.
When the source is not precised it means it’s coming from the «MC 142 - 4 cds box».
In the reworked parts I tried to improve them in particuliar changing the speed, amplifying the sound, deleting thousands of pops, noises etc…
I deleted some segments too much noisy and unpleasant to listen or without any interest (noise from the street etc…).
I used no noise reduction and deleted all the noises, one by one, with Audacity («my 10 cents logiciel»)
The recent appearance of the «Fully Finished» tracks permited to re-evaluated more precisely the speed correction for the tracks… for example «Buit That Way» is 5% slower as the «Boogie Jam» used as backing track: so I used 5% deceleration for the tracks unless it is specified…
The number for the sequences are referring to their order in the MC-142 production, (it’s not the chronology of the sessions or the take number) it’s also the order in Nico Zentgraf site. I also used the same name for the sequences.
Last warning: this collection is for the completists and, in particuliar the 4th cd, is sometimes hard to listen, but there’re also lots of gems for who likes to follow the way the Stones were in this very special period.
A big thanks to my usual partners in crime nzb and Jaap but also to Enrique (‘Quiquestone’) who spent a long time to check and correct my textfiles and covers and to BlueTurns2Grey who sent me his tape transfers for these recordings.
