ISO: Brussels_1973-10-17-2 audience!
Posted by: Rank Stranger ()

Hello!

Thanks to some very generous members (you know who you are!) from this board I recently got the Brussels 1973 gig official version from Ward Records Japan with some artwork.
What bugs me is the written note at the top of the box: FIRST SHOW !?!
In addition to that in October they never played Dancing With Mr.D and Heartbreaker at the same show; if there were two concerts on the same day, we usually get Dancing at the first and Heartbreaker at the second show...
So I would like to compare the official version with an audience tape from the second show,
can anybody please help?

As far as I know there is no audience tape in circulation for the second show. In Rotterdam Dancing With Mr. was played at the second show. The official Brussels contains a few tracks from the first show.

Yes, I'm aware of that.
According to my notes Brown Sugar, Midnight Rambler, Street Fighting Man and the first guitar solo in All Down The Line are from the first concert.

The words "Doo Doo Doo" on the artwork of the box is small andfaint and looks as if it was inserted later. (or maybe the engineer didn't know which one they were going to play (or actually played)
(Also many thanks to you know who you are winking smiley )

But there's something wrong with the "official" download Brussels or there's a mistake on Nico's page (where both "dancing With Mr D" and "Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)" are listed as being taken from the 2nd show):

A full-length recording (audience or soundboard) has never surfaced of the second Brussels show...'Brown Sugar', 'Midnight Rambler', and 'Street Fighting Man' have never surfaced.

I'm sure I didn't look under the bed. I'm sure that I'm unsure about the existance of an audience tape. ;-)

I have always wondered if the Brown Sugar first broadcast 11/20/88, attributed to either Rotterdam 10/14 (Chris M. and others) or London 9/9 (Nico Z.), is actually Brussels 2nd show. It's clearly not London when compared to my recording, and I don't have Rotterdam for comparison but it seems odd that only one song would be used from that show.

Thanks much for those versions to compare to what I have. None of them match, so I don't think the mystery Brown Sugar broadcast is from Rotterdam. The marker is right before Mick starts singing; he says, "Alright children(?)."

This version can be heard from Wolfgang's Vault: [www.concertvault.com] and "Brussels Affair Definitive Edition" (Rattlesnake 015/016) where it's incorrectly listed as 10/14/73 2nd show.

So I'm still wondering if it's Brussels 10/17/73 2nd show.

When I click on the link provided the correct date for the show is listed. Also, if one wishes to hear the track, one must pay € to join the site.

Jamais de la vie!

P.S. Thank you very much to RANK STRANGER for uploading the CLOGGIE ROTTERS versions of Brown Sugar!!!

An earlier debate on the correct dates of the Rotterdam 1973 shows.

The audiencetape for the October 13 show is missing Brown Sugar.

I may be wrong, but :

13-10 + 14-10 1st : 2CD The Rotterdam Tapes (Stone Crazy)

14-10 2nd - audience tape 1 (without Brown Sugar)

Brown Sugar (missing) - Star Star (with short cut) - runs too fast - somebody singing all along the show

10-10 2nd - audience tape 2 (Brown Sugar only)

Brown Sugar (correspond with KBFH BC 20.11.88, so recording date according to BN is OK) - clearly coming from another source than tape 1 - the first bars are cut.)

Going by the audience recordings posted by Rank Stranger, none of them match the 11/20/88 broadcast of Brown Sugar. 10/14/73 2nd show doesn't match; it's missing Mick's ad lib right before he starts singing. All the other Rotterdam recordings are also missing that ad lib. Therefore, it's not from Rotterdam. But where?

Yes indeed, so probably the sound board Br. Sugar is from the 13 Oct. show. I hope so, because I was there!

Thanks for all your input.
I wish I had my collection a bit more organized!!

I knew I had the stuff from Dime somewhere, but obviously I did not look carefully enough. I got the three R'dam shows from a member of this board on cd-r, because at that time I could not handle those torrent sites.

So here are the three Brown Sugar from Rotterdam tagged right I hope as they are identified by the "Dimers"

...and here's Brown Sugar from Rattlesnake & SM's Timeless:Europe'73

They put this on Oct. 14th, second; the "Dimers" have it as Oct. 13th.

Dave, this is the version you are talking about??

Rank Stranger,

Thanks again for kindly sharing your files in an effort to solve this minor mystery.

The Brown Sugars from Rattlesnake's "Brussels Affair Definitive Edition" and Sister Morphine's "Timeless: Europe '73" are identical and the version I'm trying to identify.

From your posting of the three different shows, Brown Sugar does not match either 10/14 show.

The 10/13 audience recording has the broadcast version spliced in, so there is no audience version for comparison. I ran into that problem a couple years ago when I was trying to figure things out. Gave up then and am about to now unless anyone has any bright ideas.

Thank you very much, LiveatHydepark!

On first listening it seems to be the same as on the boots!

A bit difficult to tell, as Jagger's voice comes from another planet.

I think I will adjust the volume and give it another spin, jumping from one version to the other wakes the neighbours!!

Thanks again!

LiveatHydePark,

We may have a match here! Too bad the vocals are so low at the beginning and the recording is so bad; it's really hard to tell. The vocal markers at the end seem to match. Is there any way to confirm what show this is by comparing other songs? At this point I'm thinking 10/13/73 could be the date. Thanks for your help.
