What do Mac/Linux users use to make checksum files?

What I tried to get posted:

BSD, Unix and Linux are using md5sum as a basic command.
Just open a terminal, go to the folder you have the flac - files for example: cd /home/yourusername/thefolderwiththeflacfilesyouwanttoshare/
and press enter.
Now it is: md5sum -b *.flac >flac.md5 and press enter. Now you have a file called flac.md5 with a md5sum for each flac - file in the same folder.
What happened?
md5sum is the command calculate the checksum
-b is telling md5sum to read in binary mode
*.flac is telling md5sum to do so for each flac - file in this folder
the output is coming on the screen, to get the output instead into a file called flac.md5 just pipe or redirect the output with >flac.md5

In fact, thanks to everyone who waits patiently, we know it's frustrating when this happens, and it has happened to us more than most, but the idea behind EL is important to us and we do want to stick with it as it is.

Well, the idea behind EL is great and the founders got my full respect.
But, if the problem persits and lot of members, especialy uploaders, can't no more access to the site, I fear that EL will slowy die. Shareef's revenge! (bad joke for those in the know).

Seriously, I really wish this will be not the case.

From my side, some great new silvers (in perticular RS: Topical Sun EVSD) are ready to be uploaded exclusively at EL since X-mas eve. Facing the impossibly to joint the site, I'm waiting for better days, even if my patience is, sorry to say it, not unlimited.

What a great share that would be Andrea...it seems right now to be a confirmed traffic issue. The Nightshift last night was fast as usual and we got a lot done. It bogs down a bit during the dayshift...stay tuned

the internet provider I use for EL seems to be overloaded with traffic

To me the Christmas holidays are over by now;
I have tried several times this morning ( when there shouldn't be much traffic ),
can't even get to the front-side of EL, I haven't been there since Dec.24th ( 2014! ).
Hope I did not miss andrea56's upload!?!
Are there any news about the state of the tracker?

Running normally for me this morning.

I don't think it is necessarily the traffic itself that causes the problem, but the Traffic Shaping the networks put in place because of it. Which I guess is why different people have different experiences. I've heard of several people who can access the site from one network but not from another.

I've tried it four days 16 hours a day but have no access (not only from my PC at home)! Most time I've the fatal error message (Maximum execution time ...) sometimes I have only a white screen and in one case I had the following screen.

Same for me, haven't been able to connect to EL for dayyyyyyyyyys!
Sad way to start 2015...

Today is the first time my torrents are not turning red and be stoped since weeks!
I think this is a good sign.

Now they turned all red again.
But at least they started inearlier today.

It's getting better; Usually waiting between 10 and 30 seconds to get where I want to be.

I can access EL in a couple a minutes

Maybe it has something to do with Mac or Windows?
I use a Mac and can't reach the site. Not at all.

It seems it ebbs and flows...sometimes its great and we can get in and sometimes it doesn't work at all...

Be assured we are all working very diligently in the staffroom trying to come up with new ways to safely wash a cat. You know getting the animal all soapy and not letting it scratch the crap out of you...but we are also concerned about this connection issue...

I've always found the site slow. Everytime I have to go to a new page while searching it takes a while.

I think it maybe because each page is fully loaded and extra images and gadgets.

Perhaps if the page would be less filled with fancy and gadgets to look nice it would load the page faster.

Reason I believe this may be one reason is because if I want to laod a certain web page faster I can make it load without images by setting and preferences.

Look at when going to google.com it laods very fast because not much on it's homepage.

no, it´s slow, because it´s not on a public, but an provate server,
so the internet line is slower.
but thats not the reason for the issues we had the last weeks.

I agree with falo, this problem is about the network not the site itself.

The Don is correct that a page with lots of images and fancy stuff is slower to load than an empty one, and to be honest the more lists and details that are displayed the more database queries are run which will also slow the page down.

But the difference is marginal. The database queries take less than half a second on average for our index page. Most images get cached by your browser so you don't keep downloading them all the time. But it will take longer than a blank page, and there are no doubt incidences where the page has timed-out because of this.

But even an almost empty index page wouldn't help at the moment because even a simple "ping" will fail when the site is unreachable.

Normally, with most members (it would seem) loading times are quite acceptable and they seem to like the layout of the site as it is (There is an option to turn off the two side bars btw). So I didn't see the point of trying to strip down the index page and change everything just in the hope that it might help a few people's pages load. It wouldn't solve the problem.

I don't mind chipping in a few bucks to put the site on a faster, public server!
