Unreleased Decca Live Album 1972
Posted by: lapaz62 ()

The copy that I had was low volume with a few clicks and hisses, cleaned it up a little, got rid of most of the problems, final version a bit muddy but the louder you play it the better, anyway, here it is if you don't have a copy, will put up the link shortly. Posted a few songs on Youtube from it.

I though flac was a lossless format.

Thanks a lot!
By the way, FLAC doesn't necessary mean that the files weren't lossy sourced...
I haven't checked this one and ain't a specialist, but sometimes it's really obvious (I use EAC : frequency - spectogram analysis) that MP3 files had been converted to FLAC.
Anyway, thank you, Lapaz62, for sharing.
Hervé

Thanks! Great work!

And could you post the Flac files of your original CD also?

Hi!
Just checked track 02 and track 12 with EAC. I'm afraid this is lossy sourced.
Sorry!
Hervé

It is what it is, convert if you must, to me it makes little difference, flac, flossy, wav, mp3, it's all good, my old ears can hardly hear the door bell let alone anything else. I got it from a friend who said he copied it from an LP that he had, it came to me in wav form.

Try to upload this without converting (I assume you made mp3, right before putting it up here?).

Thx!

Like I said it came to me in wav, after fixing it up a little I saved it as flac, so if I convert to mp3, its no different than if you do it. There are many converters out there and most are free to download.

Things like EAC / aucdtect etc, only really look for the 16 khz roll-off associated with mp3, if there is nothing above there they will generally call it lossy.

I haven't listened to this but from what is written (hisses, cleaned it up ... final version a bit muddy) I suspect that the top-end has been filtered off. This is possibly why it is being reported as lossy.

However, no offence lapaz62, statements like "my old ears can hardly hear the door bell let alone anything else" and "to me it makes little difference, flac, flossy, wav, mp3" don't instil confidence eye rolling smiley
Although they did make me smile smiling smiley

I just meant that I am no audiophile but I like to hear what I am listening to. I did compress the files, that got rid of a bit of wobble, added some bass and volume. When you get rid of the clipping and hiss, you tend to lose a little of the treble off the top, hence the mud, but it was a muddy recording anyway.

Didn't intend to offend you, lapaz62. As I said, I am not a specialist.
And my ears are not the youngest anymore.sad smiley
But if somebody makes a request @ dime, or trader's den, or ..., one needs to be sure if it's lossy or not.
Cheers.
Hervé

lapaz62, coverting to mp3 gfives you a lossy format instead of pure raw FLAC which should be still loseless. Read more about the difference between lossy and loseless formats. I too do not wanna be greedy, but uploading lossy sources in the palce where 99,9 percent of members are skilled listeners, you should respect its requests and fill the conditions required.

And 99.9 percent of statistics are made up on the spot winking smiley.

Better throw my mp3 player away then, guess it's useless, have to take my Gramophone or Record Player to work instead >grinning smiley<

Of the three shows recorded in Philadelphia on the 1972 tour, it seems to me that the July 20th show is the best recorded and has superior sound quality. Is that the general opinion of everybody? Its a shame that the entire show isn't around.
