This promotional CD was given for free in france to every person subscribing to Rock'n Folk magazine late 1989 or early 1990, I can't remember.
And I imagine it was also widely distributed for free in other european contries, so it is not a rare record.

It was overpriced in the past.
30 Euros is a more realistic value.

That explains why it's so easy to find at record fairs. I bought my copy in the early 90's thinking I got a real bargain. The American version is much rarer I believe. Also the Radio Sampler is the more rare CD if you can find it. Happy hunting.

I got both - US and Euro - versions below 20 Euros each. Not in mint condition, kind of EX/VG+ copies. Those are not that rare.

I believe, the other pair STONES ON CD -A RADIO SAMPLER - Rolling Stones Records/CBS CDCBS SAMP 1103 and Rolling Stones Records/Columbia ASK 2498 are much difficult case.

Listen to the different mixes on "Say Ahhh!" especially "It's Only Rock and Roll" (American version)."

What do you mean by that?

and
Say Ahhh! SAMPCD 1347

came with the same mastering. As a matter of fact they are digital clones within null samples and offset.

"What do you mean by that?"

I mean that "It's Only Rock and Roll" (CBC 1347) sounds like an entirely different mix than the album versions to me. I hear instruments much more separated or pronounced.

Oh, that… Sure they sound different. It is usual case for the compilations. They are trying to put everything on the same page. But the tapes are from different sessions, albums etc. As a result, they apply different EQ, compression and correct levels. Hardly believe that is a different mix, the master tape was the same for all the cases. They modified all tracks on that Say Ahhh! similar way in ‘digital world’.

Look, here are the numbers for different editions.

Say Ahhh! [CSK 1827] (US) and [SAMPCD 1347] (Austria) – the same digital mastering
DR9 -0.13 dB -11.16 dB 5:10 02-It's Only Rock and Roll
Compressed and loud. Maybe that was done because the CD supposes to be used in stores and on radio.

It’s Only Rock’n’Roll [CBS 32DP603] (Japan) and [CBS 450202 2] (Austria) – the same digital mastering
DR13 0.00 dB -15.08 dB 5:09 03-It's Only Rock 'n Roll (But I Like It)

Made In The Shade CDCBS 450201 2 (Austria)
DR13 -1.26 dB -16.30 dB 5:09 08-It's Only Rock 'n Roll (But I Like It)
Same DR but lower levers

Rewind 1971 – 1984 CBS 450199 2 (Austria)
DR13 -1.98 dB -16.80 dB 5:09 07-It's Only Rock 'N Roll (But I Like It)
Same story

Star Box CBS-Sony 25DP5500 (Japan only)
DR12 0.00 dB -13.32 dB 5:10 04-It's Only Rock'n Roll (But I Like It)
Again, different levels + compression.

Rewind 1971 – 1984 RSR-Atlantic 7 90176-2 (Sanyo, Japan for USA)
DR14 -1.05 dB -16.70 dB 5:10 07-It's Only Rock N' Roll (But I Like It)
Slightly different EQ and levels. But this is pre – CBS edition, thus digital transfer could be different, although somebody report that tracks on CBS and Atlantic CDs stay in synch, i.e. the master tape was the same.

Rewind 1971 – 1984 RSR-EMI-Toshiba CP35-5021 (Black Triangle, Japan only)
DR13 -3.18 dB -18.47 dB 5:10 05-It's Only Rock'n'Roll (But I Like It)
Again, different digital transfer, EQ and levels.

I believe, Canadian CBS Rewind has slightly different levels too, but I can not locate the CD at the moment.

It is just small tweaking, you know.

Thanks for the notes bt I have no idea what these numbers mean. Did you try a spectogram? All I know is that It's Only Rock and Roll and other sound different. I can hear instruments separated. Maybe it's the CBS mixes that I', not use to, I don't know.

Those numbers are results from Dynamic Range Meter.
DR= Dynamic Range. Both are in the transitional range but on different sides. DR13 is close to good, while DR9 is almost bad.

First value in dB = Peak level

Second value in dB = root mean square (rms) noise amplitude

5:10 or 5:09 - total timing of the track on the CD including pre-gap.

Anyway, here we go with spectrograms from EAC.

Say Ahhh! [CSK 1827] (US) or [SAMPCD 1347] (Austria)

It’s Only Rock’n’Roll [CBS 32DP603] (Japan) or [CBS 450202 2] (Austria)
