Question / Recommendation on DVD Audio to MP3?

Hi all.

I have several shows on DVD that I would like to add to my iTunes library.

What is the best program to get to convert DVD audio to MP3/iTunes, in tunes of both ease of use and performance?

Thanks.

First, if the shows are by the Stones, I'd check the Stones Vault. Otherwise, I can recommend Audacity-you'd need to download a plug-in, but I use that to capture the audio from DVDs.

If you want higher quality than MP3 convert to Apple's ALAC (m4a) format with "AVS Audio Converter."

I'll upload some files that I coverted to ALAC (m4a).

Be careful, though. The same .m4a container is also used for the lossy AAC format. ( The same container but 2 different formats. )

Another option is the " ZC DVD Audio Ripper " program.

It's available for Windows but,I am not sure if it is available for other operating systems.

You can rip the tracks to the lossless WAV format and then,if desired, convert them to FLAC or to ALAC with different, free software.

Good point. Just because .m4a or flac format is used doesn't necessarily mean it is high quality. As Winning Ugly VII pointed out. "flac" and ".m4a" are only 'containers' and could contain any quality music.

To see if it's high quality audio, open the file in an audio editor such as AVS Audio Editor and check the bitrate shown at the bottom of the program.

Here's some links I did myself. Some are only CD quality but much higher quality than mp3. These are ALAC (.m4a) files which will work in iTunes. Metadata included.
