Can anyone recommend a good free file converter? I use to use Switch Sound file converter but apparently its no longer free like it used to be.

I use Foobar 2000. It can convert everything from mp3 to FLAC...

Xrecode - as recommended on here before. I changed to it and it's great.

Xrecode is great. You will also need to download LAME for encoding to mp3s.
