Sort of OT: Best archival CD-Rs?

Hello:

I apologize if this thread repeats another and/or if I am posting in the wrong forum:

With all the great shows posted on this board & elsewhere online (i.e., Wolfgang's Vault and even youtube), does anyone have any recommendations as to high-quality blank CD-Rs for recording these shows? I would like to use the CDs in my home CD player, in my car's CD player and also in the CD drive of my work computer. Something durable and yet not super-expensive (but I realize quality can be costly). I have heard good things about the gold blank CD-Rs but do not know much about the brands.

I intend to store the CDs in a binder, so jewel cases are not a priority. I do not plan to add any fancy labels. I guess the music would probably be in either .wav or MP3 format, unless someone suggests otherwise?

Thanks for any help you are able to offer.

It's easier for me to use 2 different types of DVD-R for archiving (Taiyo Yuden and sale brand) along with hard drives, then just use whatever if I have to actually burn CD-R's to play out and about.

With DVD's you can store so many more shows, double up safety copies etc.

Imho burning speed matters too : the slower it is the better the media wll stand the test of time... 2X or 4X may seem a pita and a waste of time but in the long
term... winking smiley

Another idea thrown in the air : "-r" media is sensitive to direct sunlight and heat.

I never burn to disc. I don't trust the longevity of CD-Rs and DVD-Rs.

I think it's much better to keep everything on portable hard drives.

I had several HD crashes. That's why I try to keep all stuff twiece on different HDs.
I burn only the stuff I will listen in my sauna. These cdr's aren't standing long cause of the humidity in the rest- and changingroom of my tunna where i have the cdplayer.

I think everyone is correct.
But you should for sure do both. HD and CD. That way you have back up.
Personal preference either way, but I have CD-R's I burned back in the mid-90's, and those damn things STILL play! So don't be afraid of CD burning technology. HOWEVER, that being said....I burn alot of video on DVD, and I am NOT sold on that technology. How else can you explain burning a video on a blank DVD....only to have it "disappear" after you finalized it?!?!
Yes I've had it happen a few times. Very upsetting.
It just vanishes. So you gotta do it all over again, and hope it takes.
Which most of them do. But every now and then they don't.
Anyway in all my computer experience...BACK UP YOUR MUSIC! HD, CD, DVD audio or whatever else you can find.

Taiyo Yuden are excellent quality and one of the last made in Japan. Mitsui silver and golds are also excellent
