The Rolling Stones - How Do You Hide Your Love_CaptainAcidRemaster

Hi Stones Fanatics
This is Acid Project Vol 04.I wanted to deal with those outtakes for a long time, and than Midnrambler posted his compilation of outtakes from his silver disc`s, on HC. So i took his compilation as a source ( with his blessing ). Every track was speed, phase and level corrected and EQ-ed.
I have excluded track 11a ( Criss Cross Ia ) because it is the same as 11 ( but it is in a separate folder). [Well it seems it is different, after all, with sax that is not present on other version]
I have made the new checksum and all with TLH.
Mr.D made another great artwork[ If you wanna burn this to CD , burn first 12 tracks on first. Add the rest on disc 02 plus track 11a, as bonus. Mr D have adopted inlay artwork for double disc] and also suggested we add Wind Call [or Wind Mill] ( some people claim that song does not belong here, but it is somewhere between GHS and IORNR, and it fits nicely on the end so we have put it here )
January 2012

Enjoy!

It is really two different versions / mixes.

track A2 : Take care, in left channel, of a saxophone playing low/bass notes, starting around 1'33.
this is the same version as on LP's "Nasty Habits" and "Past And Present, and DAC CD "Lonely At The Top.

track A3 : this saxophone is not present until 3'25

Ah, i haven`t noticed, will check out later. Anyway the track is included ( Remastered too) in a separate folder, so can be added as final track. It sounded just as a different EQ, but i did not spot the sax detail. Thanks for the info.

I don't think this one is from Exile, sounds more like "Winter". What's the name? Anybody knows?

I already asked on hungercity but nobody noticed - what about the 3 songs/versions that Felix mentions on his site:

Guess I should Know
Brown Leaves (aka Golden Caddy) - 2 versions

On one side they don't sound too much GHS for me but on the other I don't have any better sources than Felix. What do you guys think about?

O.K., Keessie has informed me that this does not fit on one disc.
So my advice is, burn first 12 on disc one and put the rest on disc two plus 11a ( as bonus ) from the separate folder ( that seems to be different after all ).winking smiley

Hi Thomas, it seems nobody dares to answer you....and me included; because it would just be a guess. It doesn't sound too much like GHS to me either, then again - those rough take outtakes can be quite a lot different sounding from other songs of the session; and especially the finished ones...
So Felix guess, and yours, is as good as any guess.

Hi everybody,

yes, Nico and Felix mention these versions of 'Guess I Should Know' & "Brown Leaves', but both are unverified. We don't know exact information of the origin
for these quotes, but highly bootlegged versions of these songs must have come from 'Emotional', or et least "Some Girls' sessions (listen to the groove: drum sound, compressed bass, tremolo late 70's guitar sound and the way of more improved individual playing). It certainly isn't the sound of Jamaica '72, or London or LA '73. I'm checking Felix and Nico's databases on the daily basis (hats-off to their research), but really we all Stones fanatics just only can guess when and where exact track was REALLY recorded. Ask Keith, Mick or Bill and i bet they don't know either. Maybe some recording technician or coffee girl, but we'll have to wait for their memoirs to be written, ha ha...

I think that CaptainAcid will agree that we put just that 'Criss Cross' version
as a bonus/regular, and i'll make the sleeve rework for it to be double CD.

Thank you all for wonderful comments on our work.

Mr.D

This is a NICE project. You did a great job with all the tracks, especially "Dancing With Mr. D" -- you nailed the speed correction from the Reel Time Trip version and "100 Years Ago" sounds more filled out than the version off Acetates.

Terrific artwork too, MisterDee.

You are indeed right! Even if this saxophone is hard to hear because it's a bit buried in the keyboards. But it's indeed a different mix.

I have to admit it's almost impossible to spot the differences with loudspeakers.
I had to use headphones, taking notes, and rewind, rewind, rewind .....

I have spent a full afternoon listening to different versions/mixes of Save Me. I've found out 5 different versions/mixes.

I never noticed this either, HidePark, those two Save Me's have always sounded completely alike to me. Then again, I never use headphones.
Good catch

sometimes, headphones are usefull.

Miss You : check the original Miss You 12 vinyl version and then check the version on CD 5ep "Don't Stop". You will hear differences in the guitars. for this one, you don't need headphones.

Yes vancouver, you`ve got very good instinct.IORR is gonna be adopted for Acid Project very soon. I am strugling these days with Rotterdam Rehearsals, when i finish it, IORR is most probably next.
Soon i`ll also deal with Woodstock Rehearsals, Satanic 8 disc`s outtakes, BBC sessions......and on and on....smoking smiley

On the second mix, between 3'15 and 3'17 I can hear two short guitar arpeggios that are not present on the original mix.
