The cover says recorded ‘using the RS Mobile Unit’ – I don’t think so…

As far as I can tell this is a clone of 'Hot August Night' but I can't compare directly. The sound quality varies as the source changes from SNB to AUD, but it is the complete show. Also the balance is a bit off in places especially at the beginning, where the vocals sound a bit distant. This may have been due in part, to Jagger wandering around the huge stage and using different mics. They also have some monitor feedback problems around the middle of disc 1.

Hey, Knebworth, I believe, was the show where Lynyrd Skynyrd absolutely blew the Stones off the stage. (They appeared ahead of the Stones on the bill).

Question - anyone got a good quality reproduction of the Skynyrd set??

hey Taylor Era.........I have part of the Skynyrd set......it was released as a movie (now out of print) and the soundtrack was released officially on cd, which I do have. I wouldn't say Skynyrd blew the Stones off the stage. It wasn't a BAD Stones performance though it wasn't really their best. I think basically Skynyrd came on that evening and did a really hot set and there were several delays for the Stones....they never even took the stage til very late that night.......then wound up playing into the morning. The crowd was probably exhausted and the Stones did a long set. Skynyrd did play really well that day but the version of "Freebird" from that show has ever been released officially.

- I had seen a copy of 'Freebird; The Movie' at the record store (which contains Skynyrd's Knebworth set) and like a fool I didnt buy it. I've never seen another copy since; asked them to order it - and they couldnt get it. I have seen parts of it and Skynyrd simply just smokes. Steve Gaines was an incredible player; all those guys could play, but Gaines is in a class all of his own. I need to find a copy of this film somehow, somewhere. I never thought the Stones live playing in this period was too shit hot; comparably say to the earlier Taylor Era years. Keith was a mess and Ronnie, well, he tried.

Yeah.......they used to show "Freebird: the Movie" on tv occasionally. It's been on VH-1 and CMT both. The movie is now out of print. I recorded it from tv a couple of times. The performances by Skynyrd on there are not all from Knebworth......"Freebird" is taken from Oakland in '77. I may still have a copy of it that I recorded but if I'm not mistaken, I let a friend borrow it along with my Skynyrd bootleg videos and never got them back. Gaines was an incredible guitarist. I was always partial to Allen Collins myself and when Gaines joined, I think Collins turned it up a notch too.

Great set....this was history to be sure.
