so tired...of strange files. like m4a...have to use.winzip & other..(i'm too old for that)

The whole m4a file situation seems very closed and proprietary; mainly designed to generate revenue for someone(?) not share music. Free, stable, non-tricky m4a players seem hard to come by.

It is a music file. iTunes plays m4a and is free...


People spend their time uploading all these boots for us, just accept them and use a file converter instead of bitching.

If you use winamp you can play anything. The standard formats among most hardcore torrent users is FLAC or MP3. BTW, I don't know if anyone mentioned it or not but when ripping mp3 DO NOT RIP @ 128!!!!! 320 is ideal and even those of obsessed with flac will take a 320 rip.

this isnt true, the Nullsoft plugin in_mp3.dll also decodes AAC format,
being AAC part of the ipod shit (IMO), absolutly comercially oriented, but winamp for the moment can decode with no problem..

there ARE plugins for winamp for almost Everything to decode,
its good if you install the KliteMegaPAckFull of codecs, its free and includes everthing in codecs:

Winzip it's an evolution product for windows of: PKZIP (for DOS), created in the eighties, so its not new at all..

I live in the southern hemisphere, where access to sharing servers like Sendspace etc it's more difficult, and we prefer the zipped files cause you never know if you ll'be able to download or upload the next song..

Just for the record, Mr. Vancouver has uploaded more boots for us than almost anyone...

on home Hifi systems ? Because trying to listen other thing than mp3
on Hifi system is rather impossible !

Winzip or Winrar are goog for uploading , just one or two files for a whole album !

Yep , I think mp4 is from video mp4 , in this case just the audio track.

mp4 is found on video on Sony PSP , and there are softs to convert just audio in mp4 : good for PSP but nooooooooooooooot good for anything else !!

the most problems for me..is playing and decode it to wave..

Music is headed for:
the apple music only works on the apple player
the windows music only works on the windows player
the sony music only works on the sony player
the virgin music only works on the windows player
etc, etc

for better or worse, mp3 & flac are like english on this board; it's open and we can all communicate with it freely

Flac does not work on any good player that I know of...

Who cares if it "isn't Rock 'N Roll"? Mp3 is far more commercialized than any of these formats anyway, seeing as how it works on everything. But it's music just the same, whether it's in any format, and if you can't play a certain format, that converting it is just a click away. And there is no excuse for not knowing how to convert files. If you know how to successfully use GigaSize or Sendspace, you can convert files.

flac files I play with Winamp, you need to install the Flacfronend, explained here:

it installs a in_flac.dll plugin in winamp, thats all.

also I play them with Windows media player classic (installing the codepac mentioned above)
