Question: 1970 soundboard recordings
Posted by: Tumblin_Dice_07 ()
Date: November 3, 2006 20:47

Ok........I have two recordings from teh 1970 European tour that are supposed to be the only "soundboard" recordings from this tour. They're actually radio broadcasts that sound more like an audience recording. Does anybody have any info on which shows and which bootlegs these recordings are on? I've found conflicting information about the dates and the bootleg titles and so forth so I want to know what information you all have about these recordings.....thanx

I know 3 recordings:

1. Paris 22 sept Palais des sports. Broadcast by Europe 1 Radio. It is Sbd and it does not sound like an audience recording. Complete concert. It has a radiocommentator thou'
2. Paris 23 Sept. Sbd. 2 last songs missing

3. Lyon (whatever the date). Radio Broadcast. Sbd. Radio commentator also. Perhaps the copies in existence are not that good.

As for the bootlegs and dates, they were originally missed up. Recent guides have them straight. I can assure you the above Paris dates are correct.

I don't believe Lyon is in existance at all. At least, I haven't got it.

ok......see I have those two Paris dates.....there is a french radio announcer on the 9/22 show throughout most of the show.....beginning and ending of songs........missing SFM and some songs are cut..and the sound is not that great....sounds like a good audience recording....I have the 9/23 show as well but the sound is not as good as the 9/22 but all the songs are there. There's a radio commentator but he's not nearly as bad as the one from the previous day. I didn't know the Lyon show was available.....do you have that show?

The Paris show is recorded with a microphone in front of the speakers...from radio. An incomplete Sympathy For The Devil is the only "real" soundboard recording avialable from 1970...from Sept 23rd. Available on "From THe Vaults" - vgp.
Never heard about the Lyon show...I doubt it's existance.

Are you sure it's not one of the Paris concerts...passed of as Lyon ?

Tumbling 07. I have the complete 22 show, including SFM. The 23 show has no radio commentator and it is a great SBD, and ..Erick, there are only 2 songs missing.

My version of the 9/23 show has no radio announcer until right around the end....I think my version is from the bootleg "Some Like It Hot"......are any of the songs cut on your version of the 9/22 show??

I know...I didn't mean that SFTD is incomplete on other releases than on "From The Vault".

Erick, I have the 3 Paris concerts, the 24th is an audience recording. The Lyon copy I have includes radio comments that are differentt to the 22nd show. On the other hand, Tumbling 07 says he's got a copy of the 23rd show with radio commentator. THAT might be the Yon show, as my copy of the 23rd is a SDB with no comments and 2 last songs missing.

I think that's the case. Lyon doesn't circulate.

how would you compare the sound on your copies of the 9/22 and 9/23 shows ? is one better than the other......the ones I have heard are not very good.....they sound no better than a good audience recording

23 is much better....either on SHake Your Hips, or the remastered Some Like It Hot. 22 sep is on Paris Affair, but it's not that good.

I don't know florinda......maybe .....but I actually downloaded it from this site a couple of weeks ago.....somebody posted it and if I'm not mistaken, they said it came from "Some Like It Hot".

Erick, I can give you a list of recordings that are out of pitch if you like, including the amount of plus or minus semitones you have to add while transposing.

Go to google search and type: Rolling Stones europe 1970.
You will need Real Player though

Oh yes, thanks, that could be interesting. Problem is that I got original CDs or tapes, and it takes some time to copy unto computer, and then put in on CDR.
So I only do it, if it's an important show, for me.
I don't know if you meant posting the list here, or send it....my e-mail address
is not hidden. Thanks

Well, As far as I remember now:

Birmingham 73 oh boy. You need to transposo and increase 1 semitone.
Live in Europe 76. The Frankfurt show. Increase 1 semitone.
Hangout. Oakland 69 Sdb. Decrease 1 semitone.
Welcome to New york swinging pig. I don't have it at home but I think you have to decrease 1 semitone. The original is not right.
Some tracks on the swinging pig Philadelphia Specials. If you are interested I'll check it out for you.
Some Earls Court 76 are also out of pitch.
If there is any other recording you want me to check, don't hesitate and tell me
