Re: You make me want to shout

"Shout" was a song by the Isley Brothers way back in the early 1960s. It was one of their earliest hits. The song is based in gospel music with the classic call and response vocal stylings of minister and congregation gettin' down. This was one of the dilemnas back then regarding gospel singers leaving the church for the greener (more lucrative) pastures of the pop and r&b fields. Ray Charles took church music, as did Sam Cooke, and brought it into the mainstream music world. "Let It Loose" by the Stones is a good example of gospel based r&b/rock music. Probably a little more than you wanted as an asnwer, but go back to those early r&b and gospel albums and you'll hear how those songs influenced and were used by many popular singers and bands.
