OK here's the matrix/merge of the stereo instrumenta & mono vocal versions.
First, an explanation of what's going on. There are 2 takes of the song.
Take 1 is the one that CindyC posted on youtube, available on "Sessions Impossible Vol 1", "Got to be worked on", et al. This has Mick(?) saying 'Right' before starting the song, Mick is very prominent, no reverb on the vocals, Keith fumbles on the guitar solo & it sort of peters out. This is stereo & lasts approx 2'49".
Take 2 is available in 2 versions. The instrumental is STEREO with guitar stabs & piano panned left & right & goes on for approx 3'37". The vocal counterpart of this is MONO, Mick has a fair bit of reverb which puts the vocal 'back' in the mix, more so than in Take 1 there's an extra tambourine on this & it fades out @ 3'12.
The matrix/merge of both versions of take 2.
The instrumental was re-processed for a wide stereo setting
The vocal version was speed adjusted to run the same as the instrumental
Merging the 2 versions revealed that one of them is not running to a constant speed the result of which is sporadic 'phasing', I suspect it's the vocal that's out as it had some probs about 5 secs before the fade out.
Adjusting the volumes of each was fun, too little of the instrumental & there was virtually no stereo, too much of it, to bring out the guitar & piano on either side, & the vocal was drowned out. I've tried to strike a balance but the vocal is still a bit low to my liking but I've had enough, here 'tis
