Your favorite Stones live home video/dvd of the 1989 - 2008 era?
Posted by: deuce ()

This was inspired by the post about your favorite CD from the '89' - '08 era...

Much has been made of the Stones' performances since 1989. They have released quite a few live home videos in this time period. Which is your favorite? Let's keep it to official releases...

Stones at The Max
Voodoo Lounge in New Jersey (was a tour souvenir)
Voodoo Lounge in Miami (was also the pay-per-view from the tour)
Bridges to Babylon in St. Louis (was also the Pay-per-view from the tour)
Four Flicks
The Biggest Bang
Shine a Light

1] Shine A Light [Ahead By 2000 Light Years for me]!

2] Bigger Bang [Austin Texas Show].

3] Voodoo Lounge - NEW YORK TOUR SOUVENIR.

I would include "Stripped" for sure but that is not official I take it?

The only released one that stands up to repeated viewing is Four Flicks.

releasing heavily edited versions of shows that were broadcast in full on TV is a waste of time.

Of the broadcasts which werent released commercially, the best three by some distance are Tokyo 26.2.90, Stripped and Buenos Aires 30.3.98.

I'd have to go for Bridges To Babylon (St. Louis '97). My interest in the RS was fading at the time, but when I got the VHS tape I was amazed at just how good they were!

But if I had to choose an official RS release from any era then I'd have to go for The Stones in the Park.

Definately! The music segments may be superior in 'Gimme Shelter', but to be honest I find the complete movie a little boring. 'Stones In The Park' is the greatest documentary ever made in my opinion, with the perfect mix of music, interviews, etc.

Hi Adotulipson, how's it going - yes that's the concert; but the DVD in your link is missing "200LightYears" and "Sympathy"..,,

Interesting view..! I like it as well, it's one of the first videos I ever bought....in 1990 or something; but I don't consider it to more than an OK TV documentary

"In the Park" could have been really great IF the Stones playing would have been better!
So it's only another nice video.

It's a shame that while we have 4 great DVDs from 1968-1969 (One + One, R&R Circus, In The Park, Gimme Shelter), we have nothing from the 70s! Think of what's available on bootlegs: Marquee '71, Ladies & Gentlemen '72, @#$%& Blues '72, L.A. Forum '75, Paris '76, Knebworth '76, Fort Worth '78...

Would also be great to have more from the Brian Jones era (The Ed Sullivan Shows would be a good start!).

Hi Erik,I'm fine thanks, you are correct in your observation those tracks are indeed missing.
Anything I should know about these

Presumably there is a complete version in existance , this version if anything sounds a mite fast to me.

4 Flicks (MSG and Olympia shows are all anyone ever should need) A+

Shine A Light...more for the quality of the product. Great cinematography and sound...some pretty goood song choices too. Performance (mainly Keith) is B-.

Bridges To Babylon - Keith is fine shape here. I think it'd be nice to get a re-edited/ re mastered re-release of this. The sound isn't perfect. Ronnie is barely heard (even when he IS playing!). A

I think I only like parts of The Biggest Bang...the Rio show is not my cup of tea. But there are moments in the Austin show that is worth the whole package.

No, but I'm trying to...

Actually it wasn't bad, but I'd like to have heard other people's comments, most notably Mick Taylor's (no doubt if they did a similar project these days Bill would be missing too).

For the record, I love it, Pecman. One of their finest ever official video releases.

Still think they missed a great opportunity (surprise, surprise!) in not officially releasing the "Let It Bleed" special (which was effectively an updated version of "25 x 5" ) in 2002 as a DVD companion piece to "40 Licks".
