the old dirty old rocking Stones quit after the 82 tour. The albums released between TTY and before SW still were pretty rough/guiter driven but the fact that Jagger and Richard got in a fight for sure did lower the quality of DW and UC.
From 89 on it is one big cirus/nostalgia act. With the background vocalists and Chuck watering down the once 'dirty' sound of the Stones.
A fact whether you like it or not . I don't.
AC/DC just kept on rocking

I find it kind of creepy seeing a 53yr old wearing a schoolboy-uniform on stage.

I think Black Ice is fab and I don't begrudge them any of their success. I do think that AC/DC do a lot less so every new album/tour looks like an event. I may have got some of these things wrong, if so sorry. But it looks to me that, over the last 20 years, as if the Stones have been a lot more visible. Whether that is better or whether abscence makes the heart go fonder I leave to you all.

There are indeed talks for open air dates during the summer.
2 stadium shows heavily rumored for Paris (Parc des Princes).
My opinion is that they may go for 1 in Paris, and one in the South of France, but that is just a guess - the 2 stadiums in Paris are a strong rumor.

In the U.S. alone, "Black Ice" has sold more than 780,000 units its first week on sale, marking the band's first ever debut entry at No. 1 on the album charts. Over 5 million copies of "Black Ice" have been shipped worldwide, combined with close to 5 million in catalog sold this year, the band is poised to sell over 10 million units this year alone.

they're definitely doing a stadium tour in Europe. not sure about the states, to my knowledge they've never headlined a stadium over there

Hi Andy js. Technically they have headlined stadiums in North America. They're doing two shows at Rogers Center(formerly Skydome) in Toronto although it's not a full stadium setup, only half. In 1988, they played BC Place in Vancouver, but again, a setup for around 30,000 people versus full stadium that the Stones usually do.

BLACK ICE is the 1st AC/DC album I've ever bought, believe it or not. And I'm 52! What is another album you guys would recommend? I really like three songs on the new one--"Rock 'N Roll Train"(but the chorus is "runaway train"?), "Big Jack" and the one that steals the melody line from "Born In The U.S.A." and sounds like a Rod Stewart song from the late Seventies, Eighties-era. "There She Goes," maybe?

I am unfamiliar with everything but their hits and the one I like the most is "Thunderstruck."

Any LP recommendations based upon my likes?

If you buy only one other album, Jack Knife, it should be "Back in Black".

However, it you want a good sampling of the Bon Scott years (with "Back in Black" included as a bonus), then get the "Bonfire" box set.

Jack Knife, consider getting "Powerage"...a strong, hidden gem of an album. That and "Highway To Hell" is all you'll ever need.

For those of you who have seats to the side, or parallel to the stage, if you bring binoculars, keep your eye on Brian between songs, in the past, he would run to the rear of the stage and take oxygen. I noticed this in the late 80’s and early 90’s.
