OT: ZZ TOP...just amazing to their fans

I saw ZZ Top again, 2nd time in 2 weeks. Being a lifetime Fan Club member, they left me After Show passes.

After the show, about 25 people had them. We waited about 30 minutes and all 3 members came out and sat at a table and you started on one end and met each member for a few seconds, they signed items if you brought them, if you did not have anything, Billy Gibbons designed a large postcard type artpiece and all 3 members signed it in front of you.

Nice to know a band of that stature still takes care of its fans.

What's a lifetime membership cost?

A LIfetime membership cost me $100.00 in 1984, the stop taking them shortly after.
Every tour, they give you 2 free tickets and after shows.

They still accomodate us even after 2 record label and management changes.

Is Billy still playing Pealy Gates live trainarolin? I had heard that he retired it from the road. If so which guitar(s) does he favor these days?

ZZ should give each of hard-cores a free 34 Ford coupe....

As I was saying in another post, the just-remastered Eliminator disc sounds incredible.

The Eliminator remastered sounds great, however the bonus live audio tracks are GARBAGE! Bootleg quality.

Billy still uses Pearly Gates on "Just got Paid" and "Heard it on the X" (I think)

He had a few different guitars last night. When I get a chance I will post some photos I shot from the front row.

As for the Bridge show, I had no idea that they canceled.

Saw them in 1994 and 1997.

Loved both shows but was amazed at how different the stage shows were.
1994 - prop, set and dancer spectacle. 1997, just the tres hombres.

Opening acts were George Thorogood & Cheap Trick respectively.

I've seen ZZ Top many times over the years and as as much as I love the Stones, it's great to see a band that doesn't loathe their audience so much and see them strictly as a "cash cow." The way the Stones have treated their fans in regard to ticket prices, accessibility, and their archives has been criminal.
They gives us nothing and we line up for it again and again.

Setlist? Probably started off as usual-Got me under Pressure.

Of course same opening song for at least 10 tours...GRRRRRR

Set list was sort of like this from what I recall.

Under Pressure
Gimme All Your Lovin
Waiting for Bus
Jesus Just left Chicago
Cheap Sunglasses
Hey Joe (Hendrix)
I Need You Tonight
Just Got Paid
Heard it on X
Sharp Dressed Man
Legs
La Grange
Sloppy Drunk/Bar BQ
Tush
Tube Snake Boogie (with Brooks & Dunn)
Jailhouse Rock (with Brooks & Dunn)

Here's a photo I shot, it was during Sharped Dressed Man, first solo when they do the leg crossing thing. Not bad for a Sony Point & shoot pocket size camera!

Nope. For many years now Billy does not use Pearly onstage. The Lesters you see him play are clones made by different companies/luthiers. Most of the time they don't even look like Pearly. On the current tour the only Les Paul Billy uses is a custom made Gold Top.

Hence the reason WHY they give us nothing....

Agreed! That's really neat that a band of that stature takes personal time for their fans!

I need to go see them again. Last time I saw them they were the closing act at Clapton's 2004 Crossroads Guitar Festival in Dallas, TX.

I saw ZZ Top for the first time last year at New Orleans Jazzfest and was most impressed. There isn't a wasted note in their set.

They closed the Acura stage on the second Friday. Earlier that afternoon, there was a humongous rain storm, about 5 1/2 inches of rain in two hours. A small lake formed near the Acura stage. But nothing would stop ZZ Top.

Chuck Leavell did a solo set there earlier that afternoon. He included a few piano based covers of Stones songs.
