‘Soccer’ is an ENGLISH term and derives from ‘Football Association’
Only when ‘football’ (as it now globally known) became the most popular sport using the feet, did the term ‘soccer’ fade away.
Countries such as the United States still use the term due to the fact the sport is, somewhat, secondary in terms of popularity and so, to not confuse it with other more popular foot-based sports – NFL etc.
yeah, losing a glorified pre-season friendly that no one takes seriously a couple of months after winning the best league in Europe as well as becoming European champions really is the sign of a team on the slide.....

This is the Champions League - not real football. The CL is over inflated, over hyped and primarily a TV event designed to bring in sponsorship money. It has no footballing soul. It is rigidly controlled by a gang of the big clubs intent on preserving their own interests to the exclusion of all others.
