If I had to choose just ONE, it would be Springsteen's E-Street Shuffle.

The Sopranos title song?

a state which has given the world Frank Sinatra, Bruce Springsteen, Count Basie and The Four Seasons should have more going for it musically than what is an admittedly very good song by a band from Brixton.

Is Sinatra from there? I had no idea. I always thought he was.

Anyways. I love the title song. Didn't know it was by a Brit band.

I don't know about songs (maybe 4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)), and we all know The Four Seasons,Sinatra, The Boss, Whitney Houston, and Bon Jovi hail from my favorite state.

...but, as far as Jersey-rooted musicians, we mustn't forget Patti Smith, Funkadelic, the great Gladys Knight, Donald Fagen, Al Anderson (guitarist from the later Wailers), Count Basie, Debbie Harry, The Shirelles, Nelson Riddle (Frank's guy), Paul Simon, The Isley Brothers, and countless doo-wop acts (I believe Jersey is the spiritual home of doo-wop - the mecca of street corner soul). Also, the legendary Celia Cruz lived in Jersey forever.

Gotta represent for my home state.

Very true - raised in NJ, though - that's why I wrote Jersey-rooted instead of Jersey-born. It's all about semantics.

Alabama 3 are a British band from Brixton, London, The Sopranos uses their song "Woke Up This Morning" for the show's opening credits.

According to Wikipedia, "in the United States, they are known as A3 to avoid a legal conflict with the well-established country music band Alabama."

Anything from Bon Jovi or Springsteen. The way people love Bon Jovi in Jersey is almost scary. If you say a bad word about them, you'll have people all over you. A friend of mine got kicked out of a bar in Hoboken for saying Bon Jovi sucks to the bartender.

Most of the 80s hair bands remind me of Jersey as well. Just get yourself a Trans Am and a mullet and your all set.

I saw Southside Johnny live at the Roxy when that album came out. One of the best shows I've ever seen. Little Steven (I think he was still Miami Steve back then) came out for the encore and they did a Sam and Dave thing....fantastic!

Years later, in the mid-80's, Southside is on the radio taking calls from listeners. I phone to tell him how much I love that album, and I mention how I dig the whole "concept" of it's sound--that it sounds like vintage R&B played on an AM radio coming out of a car speaker.

He laughed and said that wasn't the plan at all. He BLAMED the sound on what he called "a union engineer" at the studio they recorded at!

But he thought it was funny that I thought it was intentional, and that it was great.

"We Are The Champions"

best state in the nation despite all the naysayers (most of which have probably never even been here).

"Lyin' awake in a cold, cold sweat. Am I overdrawn, am I going in debt?
It gets worse, the older that you get. No escape from the state of confusion I'm in.
