Camped out here for the Perseids meteor shower last night--leaving this a.m., grabbed this shot for you all--the bar where Keith and Gram saw a few sunrises - this is about two blocks from the Joshua Tree Inn, where Gram died

This could be a cover for a Tom Waits CD or something. I like it. Lots of atmosphere. Strong.

Next month the bands CRACKER and CAMPER VAN BEETHOVEN will hold their 4th Annual festival in that area. Pioneer Town to be exact.

SRule-I dunno--maybe that's a relative term--evidently, the few times they crashed here in town they were at this place every night they weren't up on the rocks. I wrote an article a few years ago and talked to locals who were there -- it was a common practice to help gram walk back to the inn from here--with keith -- they even picked up instruments in there to screw around a bit. one guy even claimed to have driven a barber's chair up to the rocks so keith could watch the skies in comfort

years later, it was john belushi who got tanked here - but i'll edit it--you make a point

Been to that place many times. I used to play the Gram Fest
all the time. Those used to be fun, but then they became full of people
who think Parsons put the sun and moon in the sky (like Lennon fans.
Sorry, but true). There's still a lot of speed-freaks
hanging around out there that ruin it for a lot of people.
Pappy and Harriet's is a much nicer place out in Pioneer Town.
There's also a good greasy spoon across the street from the JT Saloon.
Mind you, it's a totally differnt place from when Parsons hung out there.
Yucca Valley is pretty built up nowadays.
The Joshua Tree Inn is great. However, the new owner/manager didn't seem as friendly as the previous owner/manager I knew who passed away a few years back.
Forget about the Parsons/Richards thing, it's a great place
to kickback out in the desert, if you like that sort of thing.

TomK--

I agree with everything you said. We were there for the meteors and he park is a great backdrop--two photos I shot the other evening at dusk before the shooting star show:

Hey, hbwriter.
Great photos. I liked your book, too.
Joshua Tree also is a great place to see shooting stars
and for just looking at the heavens in general.

Led Zeppelin Crashed Here.
There's a plug for you.
That is you, right? If not, shape me square.
If you're ever in SF, look me up and let's have a drink.
