Brown Sugar of course. It is brilliant and it is essential for he song more than any other sax part for any other song.

It's one of these three: Brown Sugar, Waiting On A Friend or Neighbours. I'm partial to Brown Sugar because it's my fave song along with JJF. The fave sax moment right now is the Neighbours one though. It kicks major ass.

Dance/If I Was a Dancer is one that's criminally overlooked, I think

This would make a great compilation. Hell, you use the Jump Back/Forty Licks edit of Miss You and there is no sax! So we can forget that one.

Isn't that sax?

But what a fantastic compilation that would be - all the songs with sax on them!

Gonna have to check that out one day.

anything by Sonny Rollins - especially "Slave"

Bobby's excellent, but as a musician Rollins is a different class.

Agree. Bobby is equal to the Stones. But imagine having Sonny on stage every night...

When was the last time there was a sax solo on a Stones song? For what I know, Sonny is alive and well still, bring him in for a few new songs would be a great idea...

Some people can never get enough sax.
Good sax is about more than just someone blowing... The emotional part is what makes it special and memorable.

Forget studio recordings, this was performance for eternity...
"

I for one think it is terrible and annoying. Too repetitive. Lacking of good ideas. Not adventurous enough. Same for most of the soloing I heard from the 81/82 tour.
A lot of very conventional "rock-saxophone" playing, sticking to formula.

Exceptions on record are the before mentioned Brown Sugar and of course Sonny Rollins' work.

Wayne Shorter's coda at the end of "How Can I Stop?"

I've always liked Going to a Go-Go from Still Life. Nice sax-solo by Ernie Watts!

One of the greatest moments on any Stones record!!!

Unlikely they were done in the same take, though as Rollins dubbed his part on later - sometimes too much knowledge about what's happening is a bad thing. I always pictured the whole band (+ Rollins) in the studio at the same time trying to outplay each other into the ground.....

The first time I heard slave I actually thought it was live. If its done in different takes, its maybe not as cool but still impressive that sonny had such of good sense of how to play his part along with the rest of it.

I just thank god The Stones refrained from ever using the Brecker Brothers or Tom Scott in the 80's or 90's.

In any case, Bobby is the best rock-sax-man ever, and he is a great jazz-sax-player too. Saw him at the Paradiso Amsterdam in 2006, and he played the hell outta the Stones jazz-player there. The tone, the timing and the phrasing was incredible! Just the best, blew me completely out.
Sugar, Knockin', wow - they're great!

Does Brian play sax or clarinet on Child Of The Moon?

Amen to that, incredibly funky stuff!

Bobby Keyes' contribution to "Emotional Rescue" is pretty exciting as well, but in another way.
