GG wrote Not Fade Away- A Rolling Stones collection. Issued early 80's with a foreword by ALO and a Backword by Ginger BAKER (of al people).
Is it to be recommended? -I believe its coffee table size, ie. not cheap and wonder if its been largely overtaken by the second of Bill's books and the "According to.. book. Views appreciated.

Not Fade Away is 250 pages of Chris Eborn's amazing Stones collection...
YES Well worth getting if you can find.....

Remember at the time reading a comment by Eborn saying that
there was still enough Stones items for a second volume...But
sadly it has never eventuated

This book is a must indeed. [www.doctorstones.net]
It was released in the early 90ies, after the release of Flashpoint.
Probably 1992.

Is this the same as "The Rolling Stones Album - Thirty Years of Music & Memorabilia"?
Also by Giuliano (foreword by Loog Oldham - afterword by Ginger Baker).

I just googled and found that the first edition was released in '93
and the Not Fade Away edition was released in '95.

Does the '95 edition include all collectibles etc... thru Voodoo Lounge
album & tour? ("Thirty Years..." includes almost everything thru
Steel Wheels & Flashpoint)

I believe it is the same book: The Rolling Stones Collection, 30 Years of Music and Memorabilia is recommended. Lots of nice photos of bootlegs and collections, rare / foreign singles, etc. Look for it cheap on amazon or some similar site.

Guiliano didn't just try to steal any tape from Pete Townshend.
He tried to steal the multi-track tapes of TOMMY from Pete's attic.
Pete caught him and, rightly so, threw him out after giving Guiliano
a place to stay for a few days.
Guiliano does mention this in his book on Pete, Behind Blue Eyes.
Not a great read, but interesting.
In the book he did on HArrison, he tried to keep Elton John's name anonymous
but referred to him as a "famous bisexual piano player."
That was a good laugh, I thought.

This book is all about the stuff! Don't bother reading the text just feast your eyes. In a world with so many Stones books this is a completely different proposition featuring the collection anyone with even the faintest of collecting passions needs! I bought this book for $5 in a remainer store in Urbana Champaign, IL in 1997. It was the first Stones book I ever bought and at the time I had about 10 CD's and my Wembley 95 ticket stub (I had been to 1 whole show!).

Please note this book should come with a government health warning. If you have an addictive personality this book should be bought with GREAT CAUTION. Since that day I have spent enough money to buy an small country or at least an island (a relatively small part of the result can be seen below). On the up side, I have met some amazing people, travelled the world and had some simply awesome experiences.... if I had my time again, I would do it just the same. Thanks to all those that have made it so much fun.

Stay tuned for volume 2.....

To see more up close, drop by the memorabilia section (Hot Stuff) on Shidoobee.

Hey mattleeuk,

Your collection is EXCELLENT! Is your real name Bill Wyman?
What is your Holy Grail? What piece has eluded you?
If I have it..it's yours.

Thanks for sharing.

Sweet Neon Con, Thank you for your kind comments. Unfortunately the pics don't come close to showing you the full extent of my collection but give you the general idea. Chris Eborn with his book "Not Fade Away" (called "The Rolling Stones Album" in the USA) is almost entirely to blame (in the nicest possible way). I have never seen Bill's collection but I have been told by those who have that my collection is more diverse and complete (from what they have seen), naturally I lose on instruments and stage clothing etc.... There are a few unique items of mine that were used (without permission) in Bill's book (zero credit given).

As far as things I am still looking for you can never finish early 60's posters / handbills so I am always looking for those.

In the more reasonable price range, I am still looking for about 3 or 4 of the 2006 dated picks to complete my set. Other priorities would include and original Kilburn 74 poster (woody), the long thin yellow Some Girls poster.

I am also a completist Woody collector so collect Birds, Jeff Beck Group, Creation, Faces, Solo etc...the task is a never ending one...

Chris Eborn is one of just a handful of collectors who have a true issue of Necrophilia and can be seen on page 53 of Not Fade Away. Only a handful escaped the shredder. I would kill for that.( well, not really kill, seriously injure maybe)

Matt, I agree that this book is the most frustrating thing I ever saw !

Your collection is absolutely awesome, and only insiders can get to this amount of stuff, unless being a millionnaire.

Dated guitar picks are pretty cool! I didn't know they had picks by date before you posted some on Shdoobee's forum.

Are you planning to create your own book? Can't wait.

I understand what you say about addictive personalities etc...
but Giuliano's book had a different affect on me. I considered
myself a collector but I never spent TOO MUCH unless it was something
"ultra-rare" or I really had to have it.....but i realized that much of
the thrill for me was to simply SEE IT. I didn't always feel the need
to own it.....his book, full of pictures, did the trick. Seeing items
online/ebay etc... also is enough (sometimes)....especially when, financially,
I need to be realistic.

Don't get me wrong, I ENVY your collection! And would LOVE to see EVERYTHING!
A collection like yours should be on display in its entirety.

Have you already made out your WILL? I always wonder what happens
to major collections when a collector passes on. Compared to yours,
my collection is relatively tiny....and I don't even know what to do
with it. Ideally I'd want a young Stones fan to inherit it and appreciate it
.....and continue it.

Sweet Neo Con, yes indeed. I am a great friend of Chris' and we hope to do another book at some point (we nearly got there a few years back but the publisher got taken over and pulled music titles). My collection is different to Chris' as he focussed on records, merchandise, magazines etc... (i.e. things that you could buy), I focus on concert and promo posters, press kits, passes, autographs etc... (i.e. things that you couldn't buy).

Having said that we both collect everything, it is just the fact our collections are strongly biased that way. It is just a question of collecting tastes; there are very few collectors that collect across all formats. As long as you enjoy what you collect, the shows you go to or the people you meet that is the important thing.

Please note I am only 32 so have plenty of time to take care of any donations :-)

I currently have some posters on loan to a gallery and have had stuff featured in weird and wonderful places including a Harrods window display! I am always willing to show my collection to interested parties as there is no pleasure in sitting at home stroking it! Several IORR members have had the tour....

Enjoy,

Just a thought -what happened to Pete's planned autobiography? I seem to remember that part of his defence in his "child pornography case"was that he was researching on the internet - for his book.
I don't think its emerged as yet?

I thought you were fairly young...I saw the pic with you & Woody...but
you never know when you might spot the elusive Kilburn '74 poster
and get so distracted that you didn't see THE BUS!

Re: "things you couldn't buy"

not sure if this qualifies as something you'd collect....In my collection I
have a "voucher" that was given to Steel Wheels Crew-members (& roadies?...and?)
that they redeemed for their meals. I'll have to look for it it but..it was
the size of a ticket...had the Steel Wheels logo etc..and it said "Steel Meals".

I'll scan & post a photo when I have time.

A friend's sister worked on the catering staff at Alpine Valley (East Troy, WI).
Matt, Is this something you'd be interested in??

Also...I don't remember seeing the Steel Wheels Converse sneakers in
the Giuliano book. I had a couple pairs,,,new in box. In 1991 or so....
...a local (small) shoe store had dozens of pairs that they were clearing out
for $10/pair. Had no I idea they'd be so rare. I'm an idiot.

Sweet Neon Con,

Yes, the meal voucher is the kind of thing I mean when I say "items that were never for sale". I don't know how many colours there were in total but I have an orange and a lime green one and I think a blue one but I would have to check.

The photo of me and Ronnie you have most probably seen was taken in 2000 at the Jazz Cafe. The first time I ever met him (I was 24 then).

As for what happens if I get run over by a bus. I guess my collecting buddies woudl get lucky! My dad always claimed he would skip it(dumpster) although I think I changed his mind when he and my mum were both "baptised" at the Astoria in 2003. They ended up asking (and going) to Wembley and Twickenham too!

Those Steel Wheels sneakers were a major miss at $10 a pair. They reliably go for $500 in new but unboxed condition now! The ones to really hunt down though are the ones below. The Bigger Bang Promo fender sneakers! Apparently only 10 pairs were made in the UK for the Stones kids.

Re: Geoffrey Giuliano

Geoffrey Guillano s a vile looking creature. I do have some of his books but only get them out to scare the kids with the authors picture on the dust jacket!!!

This quote from Olivia Harrison seems to encapsulate the man:

Harrison's wife Olivia wrote a letter to the newspaper The Guardian in 1992 attacking Giuliano. She wrote, "like a starving dog he [Giuliano] scavenges his heroes, picking up bits of gristle and sinew along the way."[16] She specifically objected to a George Harrison quote that Giuliano used on the cover of one of his books, stating: "My husband once made the remark: "That guy knows more about my life than I do." Giuliano missed the joke and used it to endorse his book."[17]

i know. mine were new in box w/tags & stickers etc...
sold a pair on ebay (5 yrs ago) for $400.
could've gotten more if I had opened the auction to non US bidders.
The Japanese fans will pay more.
